Just got a pile of axles, and it had a 63 f100 9" and front i-beam. The 9" seems to be a big bearing (3.15?) its got the shafts and 3rd pulled. My question about it is, are the axle seals the type pressed into the tube end? Its got the sealed type bearing and retainer ring on it. I cant feel any rubber in the tube ends. I can make out the 'ford' logo inside the tube end...is this the seal-ring (metal?) And on the front axle. Anyone know the kingpin diameter? rockauto list 2 different ones. Should I just pull them and try to measure them? And I read SOMEPLACE that the 63 front brakes had some 'special' cylinder that they do not make anymore. Any truth to that? Sorry for the long-winded FNG post.
Am under the thought that the 63 is the same as the 66 (which we just did one) and it had a seal in the tube. we put bearings in the spindles and the parts were available in kit form from 6 States here in Boise, Idaho.
Thanks Mark, thats what I figured. Just seemed like a good axle and figured I might as well rebuild it and keep it around instead of tossing it.
