a couple things. 1. Does anyone know of anybody in WA that does drop axles? Or is there a good online source to buy an already dropped axle? 2. Does anyone have any info on putting a mustang 9" dropout rearend in one of these truck? 3. What is the easiest way to figure out which rearend I have? I'm not familiar with the older integral ford rearends like in this truck. Thanks in advance look forward to any info.
I have a 63 short bed unibody also. Those trucks came with 9" rear ends from the factory. They used a big bearing, 28 spline axle, and the standard 9" dropout. I don't know for sure but I think the truck used a larger U-joint the a car. Hope this helps. wasp
ive been under it and doesnt look to me that is is a drop out rear member theres no bolts on the front side of the axle housing
It must have been swapped at one time or another. All 1/2 ton Ford PUs used a 9" rear from 1957 till 1972 with very few exceptions. Does it have 5 lug nuts or 8? If it has 8, it's a 3/4 ton, most likely a dana-60
Its half ton I know that much bout rigs. lol. And I'm fairly sure its the factory rearend, it looks identical to the rearend in 65' F250 I just got for free.
Looks like it has been swapped for a 73 or newer rear end. From 73 on Ford used the Dana-60 style (removable cover on the back side) in the 1/2 ton.
wouldnt a newer rearend also have the removable 3rd member, and why would my parts truck have an identical rearend. they both swapped?
it could also be a dana 60-2 that is what my buddies had in it. dana 60 housing with smaller axles and 5 lug. jeep guys seem to like them
ElPalacko here on the hamb will drop yours and ship it back to you when done. The were in the last couple months in rod and custom on the axle article.
