This may sound like a dumb question, but I cannot figure out how to get the ignition switch assembly out of my dash-it seems spring loaded-any hints??
    Thanks

I believe it is just like my 65 Ranchero and does have a &%&(&(%% spring in behind. To remove take out key and tumbler ,then while holding the bezel tight to the dash push the switch body towards the bezel and rotate about 1/4 turn. I think looking at the switch it's self you turn it CCW to release. I know I had a one ^%*^*( bitch of a time getting my old out. Putting the new one in wasn't fun either. My bezel and switch were repops and needed a bit of very small file work on the area where they hook together.

I did it on my '63 Mercury some time ago. Was a real pain.

Turn the ignition key to the accessory position (far left). Press in the pin in the hole, next to key, turn the key more left, and pull the lock out. Press the spring in with the switch on the rear of the switch and turn it relativelly to front bezel until it comes off.

If you are at that point, you should concider yourself lucky to got this far, but the cherry of putting it back will follow soon.
