Does anyone know what position the pressure and return hoses from control valve to pump take , I have done mine like this and they do not catch any where but I'm informed that they are wrong .has anyone got a pic of an original layout please? Power steering rebuilt and fitted by mark & anne's photos, on Flickr I have re fitted the 2 short hoses and lost all the twists and bends in them already.
Lol it works but I'm informed its not factory correct but no can prove it either way so a pic would be great
Generally on those power ***ist setups, if you cross those two hoses, the power steering will only work in one direction. ---John
It's impossible to cross the 2 hoses as the fittings are different sizes on each end . I'm talking about the pressure and return to pump from control valve not the two from control valve to cylinder .
Some peoples idea of Not Factory Correct would simply be that the one hose shouldn't be twisted like it is. In this Old Car game you gotta be careful who you listen to. The Wizzard
I'm starting to realise this, I need to prove it to myself . I won't be changing mine a the moment but I Hate being wrong As previously said the 2 hoses from control valve to cylinder are now straight
X2 what everyone has said. They must not like your twisted hose. Maybe you can straighten them out & make them happy.
As I said previously the twisted hose's are twisted no more. Its the other hose that is the pressure hose from pump that is supposed to be the problem .
Her is what I think I know having worked on more than 1 of them. The high press hose has flaired fittings and line nuts on both ends and the 2 ends are different so you can't put it on backwards. Probably has more to do with coming off the Ram and in the back of the Pump. The return line only has 1 flaired fitting and line nut on it. The other end is open hose and uses a hose clamp. You'd have to be pretty good to get it on backwards. Also the 2 ports on the Ram are different sizes so each hose can only go into it's proper hole. So if my memory is still in tact I don't think you can Screw it up unless you work real hard at it. Now it's been a few years since I actually done this so if I'm wrong be gentle when you tell me so. I guess I could go look under my 59 to verify. It uses the same system. The Wizzard
I agree with all that but its the steel tube section of the pressure hose that is wrapped around the control valve I'm told is wrong , I'm told it should be above the control valve and lay next to to the return hose but can't see how that is possible with the hose I have . It was in the position i have refitted it when I stripped it as well. A picture would be fantastic if you could manage it please.
This is not a grate photo but you can see the steel line. Next chance I get I'll get it up and take a shot from under it for ya. The Wizzard
