Working on a `63 Nova 194 six.Engine idles fine(Smooth)Prier to me working on this car the owner tuned it,Had carb. rebuilt and added an electronic ignition system. The car has no power.(No misfires.Almost feels like your starting off in high gear) at an idle the engine vacuum is 9 inches at 1,500 rpm it`s 15 inches decell is 17 inches(At all the readings the needle is steady)The car has been like this since he bought it off ebay.I think the cam is retarded by one tooth.Any suggestions....
Had a Chevy II years ago with 194, and would stall going around only a right turn, left and straight were ok. Had to get it smogged and it barely p***ed with the idle speed way up and idle mixture almost all the way out. Was messing around one day and found the whole intake and exhaust manifold bolts were loose. Tightened them up and re-jetted carb to 55 jets and ran fine after that. Just a thought. A couple of years later the engine was swapped into a 63 Chevy and started running like ****. Turned out to be worn distributor. Replaced the bushing and ran fine after that. Another possibility.
Well, for my 2 cents. I'd suggest using a timing light that can be zero'd out. Then as you run the engine, see if it's advancing as it should. The first thing that jumps out at me is they put in a after market electronic system. So is it advancing? At idle, it will read 15 inches or so would be about right. What does it show at 2500 rpm.
