It was a good night. We worked thru a few bugs first being the lokar shifter not being adjusted so the neutral safety switch wouldn’t let the key work so we jumped across the starter. The carb was gummed up so the top was pulled and power valve passages were cleaned and the distributer is in one tooth off. A super big thanks to our friend Gary for all the help wiring and firing the car.

  5. Good job on the firing engine milestone. That is always a big one to check off. You'll be cruising down the rood soon!

    Bravo Brooks !
There was a time in this country, when AMC / Rambler's and Nash's were shunned and looked down upon, but those times have changed indeed.

Its so cool that you could see the hidden beauty in this Rambler, and indeed, it is evolving into a kick ass car that you can be proud of !

You are proof, that there is hope for our car culture and the ability to hot rod cars is still alive and well !

Thank you! I couldn't have done it without my Dad. I hope to do more cars someday if my wallet allows it, I've got my eye on many different projects.

Very cool! Nothing like that first startup for motivation to finish up!

FIRST DRIVE TODAY! When I came up to work on the Rambler today, I wasn't expecting to drive it, so today was really amazing! I have 2 videos for y'all. First one is it idling on its own and the second video is me test driving it!

I also have seen question, we noticed the gas neck/tank is leaking a bit. Dad soldered it up pretty well. It was filled with water and never leaked. Is JBWELD an ok product for a fix or do you recommend another way to fix it?

    Also have some pics for you to enjoy 20220315_190522.jpg 20220315_190532.jpg 20220315_190541.jpg 20220315_190642.jpg 20220315_190701.jpg 20220315_190714.jpg 20220315_190727.jpg 20220315_190749.jpg

  14. Hey Brook that's a very cool car I love all the lines the 60s cars had and that one has the lines, great to see you have it running now you can finish it and also take a ride in it off and on. Very nice work. Tony

A hard earned Smilestone...and another repair......:)...alas it's part of the game. Is there a sealant that can be sourced...

At Advance Auto Parts they Cary an epoxy that is made for plugging leaking gas tanks. Probably other stores carry it too. Can even be used on cars with fuel in the tank and actively leaking. Nice job by the way!

Whatever you use it would be nice to have a flowing uniform fillet as opposed too a big giant blob on the leak area...there seems to be a large array of products that can achieve the task required. Whatever JB product you have you would be best to read the instructions to determine if it will in fact repair fuel leaks...being paintable would be nice too...one other suggestion would be to run the fuel down so the leak area doesn't saturate the repair area while applying and curing.

Nice job! Permatex has a 2 part epoxy for gas tanks. Got it at CQ auto parts.

Took the Rambler for a drive around the neighborhood. Unfortunately it looks like the 1inch lowering plates in the front are going to have to go. We installed new spark plug wires as well tonight. Running pretty good, the cutouts are fun to play with.
We seriously need to replace the strut rod bushings now. It looks like it might just be easiest to weld on mustang 2 strut rod stuff since there doesn't seem to be a direct replacement for 63 Rambler.

  21. My favorite part is still the SBC painted with dark green AMC engine paint. And the interior.

I replaced the strut rod bushings on my 62 Rambler SW. I used after market AMC poly bushings. The hole in the strut rod bracket was larger than the outside diameter of the poly bushing so I welded some sheet metal around the hole to make it smaller. Rubber bushings dont last. NOS rubber bushings fall apart quickly. The poly bushings are 2 part and easy to install.

Last night we removed the front lowering plates, was surprisingly easy to do. Took it for a short test drive and it felt great! And I think the stance still looks good. We also had an exhaust cutout not closing, so upon examination, we found a wire that got smashed in half, which caused a short or something and blew a fuse. Bit of fixing up there and it works good again. Finally got around to getting insurance on it too. So close to "finishing" it up for the time being. 20220419_175759.jpg 20220419_175808.jpg 20220419_175828.jpg

  25. This is an often overlooked car to hot rod. And few are still around, AMC made a lot less cars than anyone else. I'd say it came out great.

How sweet is that! I missed the earlier updates where you got it fired up and the first drive, so it was good to get caught up and see where you're at with it. It sounds great! I loved the stance it had, too bad you needed to raise the front, but it still has a nice stance to it. Keep goin man, the end is in sight!
