Does any one know if any companies make lowering springs for the front of the 63 tbird or do I just need to go on the cheap and cut the springs.... trying to go 3 inches. Just picked this car up trying to learn the thunderbird ways ha ha... any input would be great if any one has a bullet style bird that's lowered throw some pics up snd a description on what you did thanks zero

  2. You can go 2 different routes bub. You can go with drop springs (cut or bought) or you can get a set of dropped spindles. Fatman Fabrications sells the dropped spindles (part# FM 5764F) but they are very pricey, about $580 a set. They will give you the 3" drop. Or, you can order a set of lowering springs from Jamco suspension (www.jamcosuspension.com). They come either as springs or as a kit that includes the shocks. $199.95 for the springs or $269.95 for the springs, shocks and lower bump stops. But if you are on a budget, you might just want to cut your existing coils. 1 coil cut off should equal about 2" of drop, so if you cut 1 1/2 coils off, it should give you your 3" drop. Make sure to use a cut-off wheel and not a torch. The heat from the torch will cause the spring to lose it's tempering and it won't be any good any more. Hope this helps bub.

New Coils are $160 from the Major Tbird Parts Guys
    (Tbird Headquarters,Larry's and Concourse Parts).

I cut 1 1/4 from mine and I was REAL happy with it.
Use a Cut-Off wheel and you'll be fine.
Mine have been cut for over 2 years and they are still at the same height.
There was also NO "bottoming out".

Cut springs and 3" blocks in the back. Rides and drives great. Rarely bottoms out.

I cut 1 3/4 coils out of my 1962 Thunderbird. The rear I had to build lowering blocks. I made them out of 2 1/2 inch square tubing. This is because the center pin on the spring is 1 inch.

A damn big search. Jamco's got a pretty long list of unhappy people. Better yet, do an intro and send me the money. I won't send you any parts, either, but I will at least send you a thank you and a picture of my cat, Jack.-He's really into hot rods-he'll pee on anything.

  13. Gotta suck up to someone who owns a machine shop. I'm cheap so I usually wind up making something like lowering blocks out of stock I have laying around.

Just lowered my friends 64 bird, he got a set of drop springs from Coil Spring Specialties and Blocks in the back. We hand to machine the hole on the blocks a little bigger to fit. Make sure you got a good set of spring compressors

did you guys remove the plate on top of the leaf springs with the almost 1" pin to put your blocks in? When you modified the hole in to bottom what did you do for the pin on top of the block, was a larger pin required?

Be way careful with those front springs. Biggest nastiest ones I've ever dealt with. I removed the big cushion block in the rear and used a 3 inch block. Cut 1.5 coils up front, gave my 63 a level 3 inch drop. Rode great, no need to wary about bumpstops but Cheka your shock travel.

Hi, do you know which springs were used to lower the 64? I need to do the same for mine and can't find a new set of springs made to lower a 64.
