Way cool. HAMB-friendly or not, I'm glad to see someone your age appreciating the cl***ics. My suggestion is the same for all cars: Shave it and bag it. Once you do that, the wagon will look cool no matter what you do!
It will be a fun car. what did you have to do to convince the parents to let you get a car at 14? I got my first car at that age too, a 1953 Pontiac. but i really wish they would have let me get the ~1930 Chevy pick up i wanted to buy when i was 12 (for $15). may be your age will get you a free p*** on a OT car post.
Awesome buy. My only advice to you is make it your own but dont get in over your head. Keep it a driver.
Nice wagon dude, I suggest you keep the steel wheels and spend the astro $ on brakes, suspension etc. Mag wheels are for race cars, just my 2 cents. I love wagons and this is a cool one. ~sololobo~
I also have a 65 Impala wagon. I just don't talk much about it here. Disc brakes are a good up grade. Or just re plumb the front lines for a double master cyl.
congrats on the car young gun,i love them old wagons.as for wheels i always liked cragar ss. with that car having a green interior you are kinda limited to the outside color.i cant think of many colors that go with green.white. black heck i dont know. lol. id spend my money on the brakes and suspension, then worry about the way it looks.glad to see your not buying honda civics but good old american iron.love it when young guns take to the old stuff.but take some advice from old man.dont get caught driven that thing around.cops dont let you go anymore and if you get caught you wont get your licence till your 18.if you need any advice you can get it here or you can pm me and we will see if we can help. good luck son.
Sololobo alluded to a point I'd like to make; get it RUNNING, RELIABLE AND SAFE BEFORE YOU START CHANGING THINGS. Most of us here started similar to you, young and ambitious. Many of us didn't know when to stop and tore a car apart that we later realized didn't need to be torn down. Papajohn said it, "Don't get in over your head." Tell us more about it please! Is it a driver? What does it need? I love wagons!
It has a 283 3 speed! Motor purrs like a kitten, good gl***, it has a/c, floors are solid ! What else do you want to know? Thanks alot!
Nuther 65 wagon here too. Congrats on your purchase but as others have said focus first on making it a better driver. Tune-up, brakes, suspension, and steering should all be brought up to spec before you start spending $ on appearance items. PM me if you need advise on specifics. BUT,most of all Have Fun with your first. Its a great learning experience.
The guys say its got good brakes and steering! The plan is to fly out to Cali with my Dad and drive home to Minnesota!
congrats on the your new longroof. those are great cars, especially for a first car. I have a lot of wagon and woodie pictures on my website if you get bored here is the link http://public.fotki.com/boones/longroofs/ not the same year but one done as a 60's custom
Sounds like you have a way cool dad too! Hope you take lots of pics and share your cross-country adventure here.
I'm thinking kids get paid more than I did when I was 14.... Cool car been looking for one of these things for years, for a good price. And man a 14 year old kid beats me to the punch. Killer car dude. I like it alot. One of my favorite bodystyles. I like longroofs and trucks. Those are my things. My advice enjoy it as much as you can. Drive the snot out of it. Use it or loose it. If I was 14 and got this car today I would be smittin big time. Godspeed.
I love those mid-60's Chevy wags. Here's a 68, which is basically same as yours. I built this out of a 500 dollar junker, I bought an ugly but good running 70 fo-door for 500 and put the 400BB & ****** in the 68, traded pinstriping for the wheels, lowered it, painted it and only drove it once before some else wanted it. Gives you an idea of doing one on the cheap.
