I think your into 65 Comets. Is your 65 Hipo a original Hipo Comet? I only know of a Half Dozen or so out there that are street able. That's why I am asking. Originals are Rare to find in today market.
Factory 65 AFX Comets, all Six are accounted for! Some are Original but in there last 66/7 Match Racing Style w/original drivers paint job, Some are over restored, others are Rebodyed but all have the original Paint Lettering.
Factory 65 BFX Comets, I think only Nine are known to be around! There is still some out there to find!! There out there some ware like the street able 65 Comet Hipo Cars. Good Luck. ~~~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~~~

Okay, so you know how once you get a thought on something, you cannot get it off your mind?? Here's what I'm envisioning:

I can fabricate an adjustable front mount, for the front heim, off the frame connectors. Adjustable, at least three mounting holes. The rear mounts will be attached to the four u-bolts, with tabs welded on to mount the back helim. Both heims are rotationally adjustable, with the front length adjustable. BY setting multiple mounting holes in the front mount, I can "tailor" the fit so that the bar will follow the spring arc somewhat, making it pre-load, or soft, to hit hard, or not... Remove two mounting bolts, and the bars come off for the street use.. Okay, start shooting up my idea.......;)

Great idea … I will use it if you don’t mind.
    Question
The center tube that has the spring pad looks to narrow for the U bolts to land on.

I only used a 2" wide leaf spring so it would fit inside brackets welded to the sides of my 2" frame rails. Therefore I only had to make the saddles 3.25" wide for the U-bolts to fit. I found 4x4 3.5" U-bolts that were 9/16" dia. If your springs are wider (2.25" - 3.00") just add 1.25" - 1.50" for the U-bolts to the spring width. You are more than welcome to use the idea. It wasn't mine. I picked it up back in the late 60's running Super Stockers.

Looks like that should work fine. Sort of a modified "Cal-Trac" style set up. I suggest you use multiple mounting holes at the rear as well. The more distance below the axle the more leverage from the traction bar.

I remember this car as you contacted me about wanting to buy an original tach for the car (that was assembly line installed) and you wanted to sell it as you had gotten it for alittle nothing.I still have your info and e-mails.

on my build I wanted to get away from spring bind that I have in my 55 w/old school traction bars. went with a competition engineering floating housing kit for the 9". works fine with the ladder bars and no spring bind.

Hi Dave - thanks for responding to my post. I was wondering the amount of those cars because I have read that Ford made about 90 of them and from what I have found is exactly what you said that only a hand full or so of the street hipo’s and the race cars where left. Also if anyone has any info on the Tom Coward cars could you let me know. Thanks again Ryan

The "old school' style floater like I made only allows the axle housing to rotate so the spring doesn't wind up. I believe the more modern Comp Eng set up, like 64 a/fx used, is also a slider which allows the housing to move front to rear.

almost correct, the floating housing allows the spring to move rearward in bump but the housing stays in the same place held by the ladder bars. it will travel up and down, but no rearward as the spring increases in length for a bump.

so far working great and no problems. I did add a piece of teflon to make it just a little smoother.
