See if you guys can spot any issues with this, huh?

I tried to pay attention to that "angle" between the spring and the bar itself. At the lower setting they are maybe a few degrees off. I clamped it, and did some jouncing on the rear bumper, right side. Amazingly, it really did not stiffen up until after a few inches of travel (the shocks are stock Monroe -matics, I KNOW I need inprovement there as well, and suggestions are appreciated!). I think it just may work! I am still very much going to fabricate the pinion snubber to augment the bars as well. Comments and input are always appreciated. Thinking of painting them like candy-canes, ala Schrewsberry's Berry Wagon driveshaft !!!

Can't see, but the axle can float at the spring, right? with the link and spring eye yielding different arcs

  4. Dale, it might look cool but you need to float the rearend housing or it will bind. I went with Cal-Tracs, I was going to make my own but got a good deal from a freind. The Cal-Tracs pivot on the front spring eye bolt and they flat out work. I was also able to balance my launch with them so that front end is level. Good luck

This is getting away from thread, so just briefly you may want to calc your IC and AS
http://mysite.verizon.net/triaged/4linkcalcv15html/index.html Essentially what you have is a 4-link w/ spring eye and t-bar. You can either shorten the t-bar or float the housing. A short bar will probably calc 120-150% AS dependent on mounting height front and rear

A little off the subject but I just heard from my friend Jeff Conley at Milan Dragway that they are hosting a "Detriot Dragway Reunion" on May 19. Mark your calendars. AFX Dave its time to go door to door on your street and get all those old cars out to the track. Car Show or Race it would be great to see all the old Detriot iron.

Ok fellow comet nuts. I want to find My old 65 Cyclone. Factory black, 4 speed. I sold in to a guy named Don on pacific highway. In de moines Washington. Last known plate was BYZ 986 . It had a bench seat. Had black naugahide and rust colored crushed velvet interior. I know I probbally cant afford to buy it back, but sure would like to try, or at least know what became of it. Ive got some old pics, but will have to try and scan them. Oh ya I sold it in about 1985.... THANKS JOHN

All this cool stuff goin on in the off-season!! Roys working on his car, Eddie's plowing through projects, as well as snow, the search is on for lost Comets, whats more to ask for you say??

Haha!! Well? For me? Its the fact that I want to go faster, but be able to do it cheaply, and with style. So- I visited my new/old bullet, that was delivered to the engine builder yesterday for a breakdown inpection. Turns out to be a bit different from what was previously told to me.

The engine was actually assembled back in the seventies, with all new components, to be run in an early Pinto in NHRA's Pro-Gas 9.80 index class. The block is one of the early high nickel content units, ordered over the counter from Ford and and still retains its stock stroke, with a small overbore, along with the cylinder heads, which were completely worked over, including oversize valves from Slovers. The roller rockers are as new Norris roller units. The intake has to go back to its owner, but check out those spacers! They were built by non other than Jack Roush!!! Old school stuff, but for my Comet, its all old school anyhow!! Still have to gather up a distributor, victor, or Super Victor, and a 950 HP Holley. A long ways to go yet, but for the deal that was offered to me, it put me way ahead!! I'm VERY excited!!

Come on Dale,MAN-UP and run that sucker!!! Should be real fun when both stages of the giggle juice hits!!!!! I think the ROCKET will need MAJOR rework to handle that engine,oh yes, maybe a LENCO too!!!! Did I mention that I LOVE TWO carbs?!! Real Race Cars have multiple carbs[I may have to pony up for a sheet metal intake],and THREE pedals,YEE HAW!!!!! Fast Eddie is gonna crap when he sees that engine!!!! ROY.

  16. Dale, love that motor, it would look great in the Rocket with daul carbs. That would deffinitely be a wheels up launch. Maybe it would be Roy chasing your back bumper.;) I was looking for a tunnel ram to go with an Old School look.

The induction system has to go back. The only way I'd cut a hole in that hood would be for eight stacks to poke through!!!;)

  20. Dale:

I see what you West Coast fellas are up to, thinkin I might need to fill my Moon tank with a little East Coast shine to keep up!!!!!

I think I might need to call in a favor for my new bullet!

FAST EDDIE;NOW THAT is an ENGINE!!!!Mag,zoomies, stack injection= BITCHIN!!!!!Eddie, that is cheating bringing in a PRO!! ROY.

  23. Fast Eddie, wow that is a cool motor. Injection stacks and zoomies now we are talking cool old school.
Roy the shoulder is not so good, I still can not get my hand above my shoulder. Then this weekend I fell twice and put my hand out to stop a truck from running me over. We had just parked truck and I was walking behind it and it started sliding on ice towards me.
Hope to get to the comet in Feb. First thing will be a new cam.

Thats not a good sign with your shoulder... Rotator?? Maybe? Get it looked after soon if you can...

Eddie- I love that engine builder shot!! If you did not live so far away, I'd be hiring the staff at Fast Eddies, 'cause I know it'd be done right!!

Indeed, that rail job engine is quite intense!! Interesting idea, though. I need to possibly build a new set of headers, in case the taller Windsor does not settle intelf into the Comets engine bay. Short zoomies poking out the side? On the street no less?? Hmmnnn.......

  25. Dale, I thought of building zoomies to put on my comet once a year for our drag race on the air strip. But decide it would be to much work to change them and realised I had more important things to do on my 65. I'm post surgery alot of damage to tendons and my superspinades(spelling) was torn. It was stiched back together and 4 scews put in to hold everything during healing. It will get better soon. I was 2 1/2 years from injury to surgery and never missed a day of work, hell I built my comet during the time in between.

Roger;can you say PAINFUL!!!!! Dale;you may get away with your headers if they can move up and out with out obstruction. The 351W is a LARGE engine!!Go to ANWs web page, our 64/65 Comets must run a FE or 289 based engine,WTF!!! I guess my old truck motor was too much for the other A/FX cars!!! ROY.

    I know it's not a 64 or 65,but it is a Comet with zoomies...personally I prefer fenderwell headers...but that's just me.
