The car is either in Oklahoma or Illinois under wraps. The guy in Illinois found it,but it might actually be in Oklahoma.

I'd swear that car sat at a storage lot here in Ohio back in the 90's. Must be a coincidence.

K/SA;Gary still races the 64 Caliente,I've known Gary for many years. The Comet has a differant paint job for the last few years. 64Cyclone;Steve McBlane built that red 65 Comet from the ground up.It runs a 474"FE,C-4 combo in N/SS,has run a best of 9.02,still sorting it out..He is from PA,races with 422 Motorsports N/SS group. Here’s a question for you Comet Guy’s. Were all the cars raced in 64-65 all Cyclones? Were the cars Ronnie Sox used 2 door Caliente or 2 door Cyclone’s? Also why didn’t they use the Caliente 2 door post car as they did in the Thunderbolt cars?

Just spent a little time trying to research who's Comet that is in the picture where Strickler is looking back. Premier Motors inc #1081, and looks like the name Joe on the roof. Anyone?

It's set as my desktop background and I keep staring at it, lol.

Whatnownc;the first of the 64s were Calientes, the later ones were Cyclones. All 65s were Cyclones.Mercury was pushing the hardtops over the sedans, plus there were no Cyclone sedans, both were too light to meet class rules so weight was not an issue.A quick way to tell a 64 Cyclone is it does not have the long side trim. K/SA;I will have to look thru some photos,I believe I do.Gary runs in SS/MA now,has backed off some as NHRA is so GM biased, every time he runs decent they factor that little 289 to death! Were are you located? He is always at Pamona for the Winternationals.I'm headed there on Thursday for qualifying so I can see all the Stock and Super Stock cars and it is not a big circus. Ken;I thought that was Mike's car.He passed away a couple years back I believe.Muncie;if you look back through this thread that is my light blue 65 Comet yanking the hoops with a small block! The 64-65 Comets and Mustangs in Super Stock have to use the stock little valve sizes and compression and rev the engine to 9000+RPMs to get airflow! That is a great looking 64!! ROY.

Muncie;the 289 will make HP,especially with all the great new technology we have today.I got my 289 to run solid low twelves and still be driveable. It was 30 over,12.5 comp.,World jr. heads,Edelbrock Victor jr.,700 Holley,550 solid flat tappet, full length Hookers,4-speed with 5:14 gears.I'm running a stroker 289 now,352". This one. Looks like the rear quarter says "Home of the Hot Mories"? And looks like the first name on the roof is Joe?
