I love 60’s drivers. I sold my 61 Biscayne a few years back and have missed it ever since. I know the X-frame cars well, and have always wanted a 64. I looked and looked for something with solid floors and truck, and no frame rust or damage (near impossible in the Midwest). I scored this about 250 miles from home. I know it’s an ugly green 4 door, but due to low miles and inside storage, this thing is super clean underneath . Decent interior also. 230/glide with power steering. No wind noise or water leaks inside. Opened the trunk and found four original steel wheels (with the factory centers) and the full length Fischer Body front and rear floor mats. After trailering it about 180 miles, I drove it the rest of the way home. It needs tires, serious brake work, and a new exhaust manifold (cracked and leaking), but drives phenomenal. Electrically good too. Think I’m just going to make it a nice cruiser and leave it alone..... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That is a really cool cruiser. I came across my 2dr BelAir about 10yrs ago, owned by one family, 82k orig miles. Had straight 6, 3 on the tree, orig. seat covers, straight body lines. Ended up doing a 409", 4 spd. They are great drivers and you'll get lots of thumbs up! Keep us posted on the progress. Bob
I think I would have a hard time not making it shiny, of course then someone has to come along and offer more cash than you need to hold on to it. But it looks like a good score.
Well, about 3 weeks in. Brakes dialed in, fixed a nasty exhaust leak (cracked manifold), restored the original steel wheels and saved the really nasty whee center caps, shocks and wagon springs (a bit too high, might cut a coil out) and put in three point front seat belts and a stereo. The car drives incredible with new tires. Next project, the air cooled glide has a fairly significant front seal leak. So, a trans swap is in order. Figured I’d share! Wow! I knew the original wheels and hubcaps would help, but it totally changed the car already! One of my favorite driver cars was a survivor 64 Impala 4-door with a 230 and a 3-on-the-tree. I think my wife even drove it more than I did. And, I did the same on the wheels and poverty caps. That will make a great driver!
This was mine and I think was the first 4-door old car I ever was ok driving since it was so nice. It kind of changed my mind some on the stigma of a 4-door. It was every bit as much fun to drive as a 2-door and we drove it everywhere.
