I have a 64 sedan that is in very good shape and I'm looking to make some improvements on it. I've had the car for about a year and its as factory original as they come. Nothing has been modified or changed. I'm right on the verge of making some changes and need some input. I like it in its factory digs but I think it would be more fun if I put some Torque Thrust wheels and wide whites on it (already have these on order). I also want to lower it a bit, no airbags yet though, just cut springs. The car would also look good in a new color besides white. The paint is nice now but I've seen several customs in metallic mint green, light yellow (like 63cadguy), metallic orange, something bright on the body finished off with a white top. This presents another question, w/ bright body colors what color do you finish off the interior in? The 64 has light blue interior and I think it would look funny w/ a wild body color. I don't really care and the interior is the last worry. It seems many people finish off the interior in white when the body has a wild metallic paint job. Another idea is to remove all the A/C components as they don't work anyway. The compressor is still good but 64 was the first year of the highly problematic Climate Control system. Check into just about any 64 and it is likely this component is not working. I figure I can sell several pieces off that system and put it towards the above mods. I've never been a fan of A/C especially in a hardtop w/ wing windows. Most everyone who sees the car tells me to put the money into restoring it to factory specs, get the A/C working, the seats recovered in original fabric (which I have found but it costs a bloody forture), get some period correct bias plys w/ 1.5" white walls etc. They tell me that would probably make it more collectible but I could care less. It's my car and I'm going to do whatever the hell I want with it. Any suggestions would be helpful. If anyone has any pics of 63-64 Cadillacs I would appreciate it. Any pics of a color suggestion would also be helpful (doesnt have to be a pic of painted 63-64 Cadillac). I have attached a link to some pics of the car below as it sits now. http://groups.msn.com/196364CadillacCommunity/adbiowa1964sedandeville.msnw
First of all - that's a really nice car - Secondly, since it's a more-door, I would just leave it stock, fix the A/C and drive the crap out of it. That's just me though.. that's a great looking car, really.. I think it looks really cool as it is. Sometimes when 'ya start messing w/a car, it doesn't get done, or it doesn't come out how you want, or whatever.. Not too many of those 4 door HT's running around w/factory A/C. Anyway.. just my .02 cents!
I know what you mean, its only original once. Thats why I hate to tear into it but I think some mods will make the car a lot more fun.
Whats the coolest thing a 64 Sedan de Ville can be? I'd say stock. Those things are great cars in more than one way, but no kustom fodder in my book.
