The attached pic is from SPEED and CUSTOM magazine 1965: Notice on the lower right caption and pic: "Track's eye view of the suspension on Nicholson's wheelstanding Comet" Once again notice of now the leaf springs are "Notched/Cutout" to accomodate what are believed to be 10 inch wide Racemaster slicks. In addition, notice of how the leaf springs are NOT relocated thus actually left in the factory location!!!. Take it for what its worth.
Ten inch slicks.Look how high they have the rear end up to get these 10 inch slicks to fit. Also A lot of those guys ran 7 inch and 8 inch rims back in the day to get the side wall sucked in.
the only major purpose of the leaf spring is to hold the weight of the car up beacouse the ladder bars or traction arms is what supports the rear end to the car seems likie triming the springs in my mind wouldnt hurt
I just reread this thread,WOW a lot of misinformation on the Old Comets. The 422[not 421] guys cars are clones, not the originals.Look at the designation on some of the Comets, and others, they were sometimes put in Gas classes.I could go on but Dale started this thread in 2009!!! ROY.
