Thanks!! Felt great to take it down the road finally. had some minor tire rub on the inner rear tires (messed up custom axle lengths and had to narrow rear an additional 1.375) but some spacers and hammer & dolly work will fix it.

Yes….looks awesome…so I gotta ask..anything else done to that 289? Cam, heads ported, intake? Also how’d those headers fit? You kept the 8” rear end?

Good to get it rolling after all these years. Fabrication looks boss. Rolling project better than sitting project any day of the year! Have fun shaking it down :)

Honestly the 289 is a mystery as to the internals, bought it from a friend that just bought the 65 mustang this engine was in.

Previous owner told him it was rebuilt and bored .030 over. I see the engine shop marked .030 over in the valley when I pulled the intake.
When car goes for final paint, engine is getting ripped down as well, now it’s in as a driver.

Headers fit pretty much perfect, they just touch the idler arm, running hydraulic TO bearing so no Z bar to deal with.

Had a narrowed 9”complete kit ordered in mid December, everything kept getting back ordered, called in May they still could not get me a date. Ended up calling Quick Performance and they made me up a set of shortened axles and I narrowed the stock rear myself. Eventually that will get upgraded as well if supply chain gets resolved

Nice. Am envious - my project has stalled due to C___D and that stupid PoS gearbox I have but hopefully I can get it mobile during the next couple of weeks.

It will stay a 289, in a perfect world id upgrade the rotating ***embly to a Callies billet crank and new rods, then new cam and heads.

All the old timers told me to run the 260 connecting rods in it, guessing they were slight longer for more compression ?

No updates ..still running it as is and enjoying talking to some of the old timers at the cruises that had one or raced one.

I hit the patina era perfectly so paint will be a ways off..that’s if that’s even affordable at that point.

That was probably me if they looked like the pic. I sold some through the Comet FB groups a couple years ago. I jumped off FB awhile ago so haven’t kept up with any feedback from them or if anyone else was looking for them.

Cars looking good, what color you goin with?

Awesome!! How did the panels fit up? I basically built the jig from my car and was kinda curious and worried about how they would fit on other cars.

All I know is after years of looking for them or even cutoffs seeing those panels on my car was the best day of the build

They were a great starting point. My inner fenders needed some rebuilding and I should have taken more time when I welded them in to get things right but it was hard since I didn’t have a lot to go off of and my fabrication skills aren’t nearly as good as my mechanical skills. There were some form things to work out but mostly self induced and some pounding and some pulling. But they are pretty good now and just getting some filler to level it all out.

Being in Michigan I would probably still be looking for solid originals and I don’t have time to scour the southwest US for a donor.

I did like you and did a step for them to sit in.

if you wanted to make more you have customers looking. I’ve been meaning to 3D scan a few original cars to pull models from to see what it would take to have replacements made with some of the newer metal forming technologies out there. Maybe when I get this bucket of bolts done….

The 260 rods are the same length.
'62 and '63 are lighter, I'm pretty sure '64 ones are the same part as '64-up 289 rods.
