Alright, I asked this before and all I got was a bunch of smart*** answers (smart***es, on the HAMB??)... lookin to see if anyone has any ideas for a '64 Lincoln Continental, especially 60s style stuff... Right now I think I may just paint her black and throw on some bags and cruise... but wondering if you guys have any ideas and/or ESPECIALLY any pics of early 60s Contis that you'd be willing to share with me... Ryan
-Shave the handles and some badging -Paint it the stock color, but throw some flake in there -Bag it Subtle is cool.
I've loved those cars since I saw Kalifornia. I'm ***uming you have the more common 4 dr sedan. I always thought I would paint subtle candy scallops, thin and long to make the boat look even longer! Paint the roof the same candy. White walls and some caps. shave the door handles and bag it.
Find some pics of the annual 3-in-1 model kits. Not all good but they have ideas. These are all on ebay right now.
oh man i love the mid 60's continentals. this is my vote http://www.socalcustoms.com/Features/LowLincoln/1.htm except id throw on some wide whites and some cool caps on some steel wheels. maybe a red and white tuck n roll interior or maybe black and white. the leapord skin is cool but hey...
MY 63 was dropped with pinstriping took the stock hubcaps and mounted chrome bullets on them..The car looked sweet!!
ya know I never took pics!! This was back in 1999 I bought it at a Charity service for $1200!! it was clean as hell too!! just had new paint put on it,the factory wine red ...The car was awseome!! Flesh Gordon here striped it...back then I didnt have a computer or a digi camera and it was during a very bad time in my life..and my then wife sold the car out from under me!!Til this day i could kill her for that one alone, not to mention the other **** she did!! WOMEN ****!
Lincolns are one of those cars that look better with subtle mods, I think scallops and crazy paint jobs look like *** on these cars.
What year was the Green Hornet's car? Probably newer than that. Yeah, keep it subtle. Think Gangster cool.
[ QUOTE ] oh man i love the mid 60's continentals. this is my vote http://www.socalcustoms.com/Features/LowLincoln/1.htm [/ QUOTE ] Could you ask that nice lady to quit pointing those things at me? It's distracting.
[ QUOTE ] -Shave the handles and some badging -Paint it the stock color, but throw some flake in there -Bag it Subtle is cool. [/ QUOTE ] I would definitely go with Tony's suggestions. Those cars have very cool and subtle lines, and in my opinion call for subtle treatment or they turn pimp real quick. To my taste, since they are a luxury car, they look best with shiny paint and smooth, shiny wheel treatment like bullets on caps.
Check out a November 1961 issue of Rod & Custom. It's got a Tom Danial Sketch Pad on that car, (actually 'a 62, but it's the same body) with several custom versions, from mild to wild, in it for ideas. (It's the issue with Bill ushenbery's Matador on the cover)
Thanks again for all the suggestions/pics... I'm starting to get ideas in my head and drool all over my keyboard! Like I said before, my inital thoughts were black and slammed, and now that I've seen the pics I'm almost positive!! Now on to figuring out how to finance all of it... *sigh* If anone has anymore pics/ideas, feel gree to keep 'em comin'!!
Nice! I know it is anti H.A.M.B, but the big wheels look good on some cars. Continentals are one of those cars.
ha ha ha....funny! I had pics of my lincoln on here a while back, and I got all kinds of **** for it!! "oh thats not considered a custom"......"I never liked those cars"... funny stuff man! I guess I would be in the "cool" club now....well the car is in so cal now...where all the cool lincolns are! day late a dollar short!! ahead of my time I guess!! ha ha
13hs13- Actually, I think those sentiments about these Lincolns not being customs are being echoed in this thread... most seem not to like 'em when they're done as wild customs, better to do them subtle... For example, not that I'm an expert at all (and I'm sure no one will let me get by here if I'm full of ****), but to me the flames on your Lincoln would look much better on a '57-'59 Ford (esp. '59), they're in that early 60s custom style which people would've been done with by the time the early/mid-sixties Lincolns became affordable to your average guy customizing (read: broke *** guys like me), probably in the early- to mid-seventies, ya know?? I got this car at a steal, and I never really thought it'd look right as a wild custom - but I figured to ask to see if anyone came with anything that inspired me... and I've basically just been re-inspired to stay with my original plan of shiny-*** black, keeping all emblems (maybe get rid of a few) and keeping the handles, stock caps, and bags - and cruising the **** out of it while I build my real 60's-style car, but I'll keep that one under wraps ...
Just wanted to thank everyone for the ideas and pics... I have a bunch of new wallpapers for my work computer now!! Also, I wanted to selfishly bump this thread to the top one last time in case anyone has any more pics or ideas
Fatabone just dropped our 64 off this afternoon. More than likely it will end up being my wifes car. Plans for it....shave a little chrome off. Not too much. A really dark shade of pearl blue with a flattened clear. I know you guys don't like big wheels but this thing is huge and it ain't gonna be easy to fill those fenderwells. Either 16 or 17 inch chrome reverse wheels with a radial whitewall. I don't know what is available in chrome reverse as far as bigger rims plus I don't know if you can get a decent sidewall with a 17" tire. Oh and it might get a louvered hood. Sound Cool? Clark
I'd go long, low and subtly threatening-looking... Like the Green Hornet car (that was Chysler, I think). For a grille, I look for the '64 Mercury with v'ed teeth. If you want to fill up the wheelwells, maybe a tall blackwall truck tire. But definately keep the elegant top of the fender stainless, that really defines the car. Nice catch! Dave
I think the reaon many people like the Continentals kept simple is because it was really a factory custom to begin with. The Ford design team under Eugene Bordinat wanted something clean, cl***ic, and elegant. They delivered in spades!
