I've got a 64 econoline with a 170 ci engine. I can't get it to go over 45mph!! I have the petal mashed to the floor but it won't go above 2000 rmp @ about 40-45 mph. Is is a carb adjustment? I have a 1978 carter YFA carb on the van right now. I feel like it has more power to give. I know that these vans don't go over 65, but I know it can go over 45!!

I've rebuilt the carb, installed a new fuel pump, installed a 1/2 riser on the carb, replaced all the fuel lines, cleaned the fuel tank, new ignition coil and performed a full tune-up.

It runs great, but I just can't get full throttle!!!

    Any advice would be appreciated.

i had a old truck that i had put a spacer on and it shortened the stroke of the linkage , when I would rev the motor by hand I could get full throttle but I couldn't get full at the petal , my spacer was 2" tall , might be something to check??

I seem to get the same throttle from the petal as I do directly on the carb. I even opened the doghouse while driving and used my hand to see if I could get more acceleration that way but it was wide open with nothing left to give. Gotta love the early Econolines...one of the only cars you can drive and monitor the engine at the same time.

My linkage is homemade...not by me. I'll try to post some pictures of my carb/spacer/linkage set up. Maybe I'm not seeing something. I might take the spacer off and see if I get more acceleration. Thanks for the tip 52stude43!
