352 is the same as 360 or 390 (same block). Best trans you could run would be a c-6. You would have to modify the crossmember a bit (probably has a for o matic) You can get a 460 in it to with minor mods (engine mounts, etc.) Also, some galaxies ran small block fords (289/302).

If it were me. I would go 390/c6.

its a 352 car so those bb's would fit.

on average, how much would a decent 390/c6 combo run price wise, or how much could you piece it together for? not a dead engine, but not a high-performance one either.

c6's are auto im ***uming, 4 speed?

aside from the larger displacement and given hp gain, why not a 460 over a 390?

i guess what im asking is, what would be the best and most affordable power gain over the 360 its got in it now, because when i get on it...it doesnt do much.

The easiest conversion you could make is 360 - 390. The reason being that everything is the same, same size block just internally larger.

You could use the same exhaust manifolds, engine mounts, brackets, pumps ETC

Take out the 360 and drop in the 390. This is what im going to do when I get some $$$ together. The C6 ****** is a 3 speed auto, very tuff.

Im thinking around $1500 - $2000 should get you all that. If you are looking for a recently rebuilt engine / maybe ****** combo. You could probably find a engine for $300 or $400, but if you have a running engine you may as well spend a little more and rebuild a 390 or get one rebuilt.

To answer the question about 460 vs. FE:

    FE is:
a stock application in this factory
    more "traditional"
more likely to have been repeatedly rebuilt
harder to find parts for (last used '76? trucks).

    429/460 is:
    bigger/heavier (inside and out)
    more "modern"
not a stock application for this ch***is (although parts to adapt are available)
easier to find parts for (used in trucks thru mid 90s)

Either of these motors will make your old Ford run well. Pick your poison.

I wouldn't consider a small block in this ch***is, although a 351W (again, not a stock application) would certainly provide enough oomph to get it done.

I know where there is an entire '62 Mercury Montery w/390 for sale, ran when parked a few months ago, all hooked up, stock... for 500 bucks. PM me if interested. You could get an engine shop to tear it down and go thru it for very little I would think.
