Does anybody know if there is any meaningful info on the aluminum tags that are attached to the springs in the seats? My rear seat bottom has aluminum tags attched to the bottom side of the seat. There are numbers and letters stamped in the tags.
Are they something like 4A23 or similar? Might be date codes yr/mo/dy Funny that it's a Z- code XL with manual steering and brakes- my 406 car is a full-manual XL, but only because there were no power options with the hipo engines. My XL ragtop has ps but manual brakes Sweet that it still has the original shifter
Northerndave: this may or may not help you figure out if the vinyl top is correct on your car. I was over where my XL is stored and looked at the carpet accents on the lower section of the door panels. Mine are original and the carpet lower edge (what's left of it) is either sewn or glued (or both) into the welt that goes along the bottom edge of the door panel. If you can see how your lower edge of the black carpet accents are attached to the welt it may help you determine if the roof is correct. If the accents are part of the top option, and I'm not saying they are, maybe the attachment method would be more sophisticated than just screws. Not sure if any of this has any bearing on what the original colors of the car were, but thought I would p*** this on.
give me your email and i will send pictures of a competely stock one that is all original and runs. its worth restoring, those are nice cars. i regret selling the one i had
just posted pics of my old 64 so you can see them. they are in my album profile. i sold that car a couple years ago but i really regret it. it was a nice car.
The albums function seems to be disabled right now. I will check later and see if I can view your album. Thanks.
I spoke with a friend tonight that knows my car from when he was a kid. He said the car was definately white with a black vinyl top, red interior. He also said he might be able to come up with the original door which would have the correct warranty tag for this car.
Northern, my Z code, is also manual/manual. White over red, is great on those cars. When I wack out my 4dr parts car, you can have a real dry Colorado frame, if you need one. Eric
I appreciate that, hopefully I wont need it but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks! I guess I could peel the XL panel on the driver's door off the replacement door that the car wears. There's a snowball's chance in hell it could still be taped or attached somehow to the back side of the XL door panel. I suppose it could be under the carpet too, but I sure hope not because the carpet is so bad, it wouldn't stand a chance of surviving under that carpet. I know it's a chicago plant car, I wonder if maybe there was a more normal or likely location for a build sheet to be stuffed away in a chicago car?
Mygalaxie started out the exact sister car to yours 1964 z code xl 500 red with black vinyl roof red interior 390 only difference is mine's an auto .If you need any info PM me about codes etc
