My 64 is completely dead at the ignition. The battery is good and I replaced the solonoid starter under the hood and do the old screwdriver trick and the car turns over but it is not firing from the ignition. Could my ignition be bad ? How can I test it ?

  2. The ignition switch has 4 studs- BAT, IGN, ACC, and start. Check the BAT terminal with a voltmeter with the battery connected. If you have 12V, the rest of the connections can be tested with an ohmmeter. Disconnect the battery and check between BAT and IGN with the key on. Then BAT and start with the key in start position..

Not firing or not turning over? Also, when hitting with the screw driver the bypass should trigger the coil.

A simple test light should tell you what gets power and what doesn't. Did you check the fuses?

I never thought of the fuses. I will look at that when I get home.
    Thanks

Auto or stick? If auto, is it in park or neutral or something to do with the safety neutral switch?
