Hi all, I got trade in nice 64 Thunderbird for my roadster last saturday. T-bird has very hard brake pedal and I found out that the booster center rubber bellow at the M/C mounting is broken so it doesn't hold vacuum. The T-bird rebuilt Midland boosters are ridiculously high priced so I wonder if someone knows other options that fit using original single MC and drum brakes. I will be LA area from this thursday to next tuesday and I hope I could buy one there. My plan is to visit Early Ford store in San Dimas for Model A parts, Larry's T-bird in Corona and El Mirage to see speed trials.
There's a guy with a 61 bird for sale in the cl***ifieds that has a booster/master out of an 84 ford exp,I pm'd him about it and he said it took a bit of mod. to the pushrod and mounting holes.I don't know if it'll work on a 64,but I'm gonna try it on my 62.
bought mine at advance auto. remember its just a big ford and fairly easy to get parts for. try a owning a v12 jag
Rebuilt Midland boosters are available for $195 exchange from The Bird Nest in Oregon. www.tbirdparts.com Part # 2005D
I had the exact thing happen to me. My 64 'bird had a new booster on it when I acquired it, but it had sat for 10 years or more and some seals in it dried out or something. There was a place in Indianapolis called "Power Brake Exchange" that rebuilt such things at the time. Not sure if any big cities near you would have such a company?
