This is the stuff I used to do mine, if your interested. 55 Chevy p/u axle spindles brakes 53 Chevy p/u ¾ ton springs shackles 53 Chevy pass car hubs - drums Stock frame (stripped of all IFS brackets) with manual gto steering box. Modified gto steering arm bolted to top bolts of right spindle. Drag link with gto tie rod ends.
Definately interested man! Thanks for sharing! One of the more dificult parts, I keep thinking to myself, is how I'm going to make the steering system work together. I've got a manual box from a 67 which is the same as the 65. I bought those plans off ebay on how to build a straight axle which I may just try! Got any close up pics of your front suspension 296? Looks awesome from what I see! The center to center distance looks great. The other tough decision and job will be whether to alter the wheelbase.
Sorry but this car was a long time ago and I have no more pics. The steering was about the easiest part. I just cut down the gto steering arm and bolted it to the top two backing plate bolts on the right side spindle and made a drag link out of tubing treaded for the gto tie rod ends. The chassis shot was later on when I was rebuilding after a guard rail crash in the rain and I moved the axle forward two inches on the fresh frame. I remember that I used the 53 springs because the 55s were to long and I used ¾ ton because ½ tons were to narrow. I ran about 4 leaves I think, maybe 5. I miss that car, it was so much fun to drive. Everywhere I went people went fuckin nuts. especially when id tack it to about 5 grand dump the clutch and pull the front tires six inches off the ground, with sticky street tires and mufflers.
LOL, it must have been fun. Thanks for the info! I'll check into the straight axle parts you used. I imagine they're available somewhere.
True, that looks new school. The white undercarriage is a bit much for me but people did that in the 60's and everyone's taste is different. Would like to know more about it but he never responded to the PM.
That's Don Gay's '65 Infinity!!! That must of been taken in '66 when Don was driving the '66 GTO and Roy was driving the '65 (his name is on the door now). Roy was killed in this car later in the '66 year.
Well...Goober and Peter Pan already posted some pics from the Pile-Up...but here's my angles. Very cool ride indeed...
Ditto! to that btw - I'm supposed to be picking up the body I'm going to use for my project sometime next week guys. Crossing my fingers that its not totally beyond use. Wish me luck! Phil
Does anybody know where to buy those headlight block offs that Radirwheelguy has in that light blue one? He never answered my GD pm about them! Any ideas, or are they custom made do you think?
Hi Gas_Tires_Oil, I was going to tell you about the Zettle Bros GTO, but I see you already found it. I figured out how to post pictures. Bill
Howdy Squablow! Where did you find that one? I presume this is your next project? Gary 4T950 Chevy Guy (the guy who use to drink Leininkugels in Wisc.)
Does anyone know what happened to the '65 GTO of Don Gay or the Milner pontiac GTO? Where are they now?
the entire body shell is reversed on the frame. motor is now in the trunk, drive axle under front fenders. "Why? Because I can!"
As I posted before, Don Gay built a '66 GTO for the '66 season. Don's brother Roy then started driving the '65 mid to late year '66. Roy was killed in the '65 and I believe the car was destroyed in the crash. As for the Milner Pontiac, I've only seen two pics of that one.
Thanks for the info. I love your car and the story behind it. I'd love to find and old GTO race car that someone didn't want.
What are the red windows in your Goat made out of? I remember tha cars in the late 60's early 70,s having the colored windows and may try to do some on the 65 Comet when I get it here. Any pictures of the altered wheel base Falcon? Sounds cool.
The tinted windows on the GTO are the original window glass tinted with red tinting from AutoZone. The back window was shot with the red candy paint from the inside. We have been unable to come up with any pics or history on the car other than the guy who we bought it from said that the guy who had it out in New York used it has a drag car most of it's life.
