I asked a few weeks back if 65 mustang motor mounts would work for mounting a 289 in a 56 Customline without changing the stock crossmember mounts. Someone outside the HAMB said they would work, well I'm here to say no way, they do not. Oil pan sits on the cross member. Just in case anyone was wondering
Do you need a rear sump pan to make it work? Bronco, late-model Mustang, 4x4 truck, Econoline, etc - lots of variations on the non-front sump pan that help in many of these old-car installs...
I'm with draggin breath. Mustangs use through bolts front to back on the frame side. Old Galaxies/Mercs used a captive bolt in the mount that dropped into a hole in the frame and was attached by a nut, a leftover from their 1950's design.
yeah, i had that happen when i tried on my 54 ford. your bestbet is to call rod and custom supply and buy the mount kit. it works very well..i used it in mine and ive had no problems after about 6years and 5,000 miles.
you can use late-60's F100 302 mounts too. they carry Anchor pt#2329 for both sides. they have a center bolt and may be taller than Mustang design too. i bought a set for my 351w just in case i had to install it in my '59 Galaxie.
Anyone thinking about doing a 289-302 swap in a 54-56 Ford or Merc contact me via pm,I can send you a bunch of pics and advice so you don't end up wasting $$ buying the wrong parts. One other problem is using the wrong exhaust manifolds as the clearance around the A-frames and steering box is tight.Oddly enough I have seen FE block swaps with less clearance issues.Almost all the parts you need for the 289-302 swap are nothing special and can be bought over the counter.
