As I'm getting closer to putting my 671 blower on the car had a couple questions. On the front cover there is no vent like I have seen in most applications, 20260327_135838.jpg 20260327_135831.jpg it looks like a rear end vent on an axle tube type thing. Should I put one of these in I imagine so. Also what weight oil and do I just fill it up to the lowest bolt hole on the three bolt access cover?

The typical blower front cover vent is a bit different than a rear axle vent. Any blower shop has them.. When done driving you press the vent to bleed off any pressure so it doesn't sit with pressure against the oil seal.. It's not full time open so it doesn't blow oil around when running.

I figured it was always open as you would forget to touch the vent and it would just build up pressure forever

I ran without a vent on mine on Plan II, for 30k miles, it worked...

90 wt gear oil to the lower bolt hole on the 3 bolt cover.

Never had a vent on the 6-71 on my ski boat, I always figured that I’d add one but never did, it was never a problem. I got my blower and stuff from Gene Mooneyham and he knew what I was using it for. I guess he didn’t think it was necessary.
Looking forward to seeing it all together and running.

I recently dropped a few blowers off with a guy to be converted. I asked him about the pressure release, and he basically said "meh" and that he would put them in if I wanted, but he didn't think they were a necessity. I have one blower with and one without, and the two blowers he's converting for me will not have them. I can say that the one I have that does have one, I never really touch it anyway and I put a lot of miles on it.

I had one on my Littlefield prepped 4-71
and put one on my last 6-71 as well as my current one.
the guy who prepped my current one said the same thing, he could put one on if I wanted,
    it was up to me.
I had a spare valve and gasket at home so I put it on myself.
