Well we are in the process of building our GMC 671 blower for our flathead, and our Olds engine for our 1958 Te-440 Rail.

Great threads on here on converting them to gas.

But back in the 50's did they do they same things we do today when adapting GMC blowers? Obviously they would of needed to change the bearings. But what stuff would they have not done in the 50's as we would now? Kids with no money, how much could they have done? Would they have kept the same end plates?

Don't get me wrong, we are going to try to do the most we can converting it to gas.

    Just curious. Thanks!

The old way was to machine the outside of the boss in which the bearings are pressed to make it round and then a steel ring was manufactured with about a .005 interferance fit and heated and droped over the machined aluminum boss. This helped a lot to keep them from spliting the bearing plates. Pinning the rotors to the shafts was also done.
