I'm going to start rewiring my 41, i'm keeping it 6v but need to get rid of the old cloth covered wire. I know kits are available, but i'm going to do it myself . Is 12 gauge wire heavy enough for all the basic circuits, what are you guys using? Thanks, Bill
12 gauge stranded is more than adequate for headlights. The tail lights can be 14 gauge .Small current draw stuff like dash lights can be smaller size, but the #14 is fine so you don't have to buy a lot of wire sizes. The generator armature wire should be at least #10,including the wire from the regulator to the main fuse block. The grounding real important too.Try to run a ground wire the same size as the hot wire to all the lights. The grounding wires should all originate from a common point, like where the battery grounding cable is attached to the enginne block or the battery terminal.
Just my $.02. Rule of thumb, shiny wire insulation=****py wire quality. You want a wire coated in Hypalon or similar insulation. No one likes fires.. Most quality wire manufacturers use a product similar to this. Heres a link for some more info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypalon The guys at REBEL wire use something similar? Glenn?
