I picked up this starter cheap a few years ago at a swap meet. I picked it because it doesn't have the nose cone and had a long shaft so I could put a sprocket on it. I just didn't know the application at the time. Knowing what I know now, I'm thinking it might be a 6v, but not sure there is any way to tell. I bought it to use for a wheelie pedal car project.

Being what I am using for it would draw very little amps, do you think it would last very long? We're talking just quick bursts.

6 v starters will operate on 12v for a long time (***uming in decent shape to begin with) starting cars, which is relatively short bursts........what have you got to lose?

My 6V has been starting my 'A' on 12V for several years without a problem

  4. most starter motors are in constant self destruct mode while spinning. remember when you increase the voltage, the amount of amperage needed decreases to produce the same amount of wattage which is where the heat comes from, so that being said.. it could actually prolong the life of that starter. as long as its in good shape.
