:confused:have a 51 ford w/6volt system.will it hurt or help to put in an 8volt battery?

  2. 8 volt, as in golf cart battery?

What is it you're trying to accomplish?

  3. Although a few people like them the majority don't. I have had no personal experience just what I have read (have you checked the archives?). Shortened bulb life seems the main complaint along with setting up the generator/alternator. The recurring comment seems to be stick with 6 volts or go to 12.

What are you trying to accomplish? Do you have the stock engine? Most 6 volt problems turn out to be poor grounds. Did you take off and clean all of the grounds (talk about a cheap solution to a problem)? The other problem is trying to use cables designed for 12 volts. The average counter guy today thinks if the cables are long enough and fit they are good enough. Six volt systems require larger diameter cables to work properly.

Charlie is spot-on with his recommendations. Both my cars are 6-volt and with clean grounds/proper size cables, everything should be good-to-go. In my opinion, using an 8 volt battery is a band-aid to a hidden problem. Steve

I bouhgt a car that had an 8 volt battery in it. That was a nightmare. Either take Charlies advice (which is spot on) or convert it to 12 volt.
