At Pomona I bought 2 Firestone 7.50x16s and 2 6.00x16s. Perormance Tire brought me tubes also. They sold me the same tubes for all 4 tires. The 4 tubes they sold me were for tires up to 6.50x16. I pointed that out on the package and and asked if those tubes were correct for the 7.50x16s...he said yes they will work fine. Later I looked at Cokers website and it recommends the larger tube size (M16) for the 7.50x16s. So I called Coker and told him what I bought..he said the smaller tubes will be fine with 7.50s. What do you guys think? What's the point of making the bigger size tube if it's not necessary??? My other question is about Rimstrips vs Flaps. The guy at Coker didn't describe the two different applications to me very well. I will be using stock Ford 16" solid wheels, 4.5" wide in front and 5" wide in rear, I think. How do I know what size to use, and are they a good idea?? They are necessary on '35 Ford spokes, right? Thanks!
I have wondered about tube sizes too. Tubes will expand a tremendous amount and work well. I have wondered if they make different sizes just to keep worrywarts happy. Rim flaps are mostly needed for rims such as big truck split ring rims and rims with spokes that might injure the tube.
The spokes aren't visible inside the rim on '35 Ford wires so no flaps are needed, whereas they are on Kelseys (I believe).
Thanks guys. So nothing is needed on solids with tube tires, correct? How about tube sizes...anybody else??
Over the years i,ve found 14 inch tubes in 15 inch tyres and 14s in 13 inch tyres and 15s in 16 inch tyres and all sorts of other wierd combinations. So i,d say the 6.50s should go OK in the 7.50s.But ai,nt you all got some wierd liability laws in the USA. Let,s say you have a blowout in your souped up old car, cause some damage and some smart lawyer finds out you didn,nt follow the manufacturers specs specified on your new tyres. Shit does happen.
