I'm looking at buying a '70 C10 long bed fleetside. Of course I prefer a stepside bed. I've located a complete '66 step side bed, all the panels, tailgate, wood floor strips, lights etc. From what I'm reading it does not appear that I can just swap out the beds. Apparently Chevy changed the frames in '67 or thereabouts. Anyone out there know what kinds of modifications would be needed to get this bed to fit the '66? Joe
wrong fenders, but other than that it should be pretty close. Short stepsides look pretty neat, but longbeds...not so much... (yeah, I made that mistake myself long ago)
if its a short step side your gonna have to cut the frame down to a short bed, which is quite a bit of work, but you can do it in a weekend. I shortened my 68 C10. Then at least 2 or maybe 4 of the boards will have to have new holes drilled for mounting it to the frame. I think they moved around between the 60-66 trucks and the 67-72 trucks. Then as Squirrel said, the actual fenders are completely different than a 60-66 truck and in my opinion do not match the style of the cab. If you want to keep it a long bed, better off looking for a true long step side or just putting together a new box out of a parts catalog.
