I have 2 stripped pan bolts on my shoebox, I’m going to use time serts for the repair my question is my 700r4 is still in the car I have quick jacks so I can get the car up high but how to I go about laying on my back and drilling a straight hole for the time serts? Block of wood or what ? Thanks
Flat bar stock with squared off round stock with hole same Diameter of the drill bit going to be used , pics below are a few for tapping if not comfortable free handing. The tapping is what more critical to be straight , Or clean well , Red lock tight 2 studs Or JB .
I've a set of those Big Gator tapping and drilling guides that I've had and used over many years. Wow, the price has definitely gone up! I'd suggest a simple jig to ensure accuracy using the pan as a guide for centre to centre. Some thick stock for drilling and another for tapping. https://biggatortools.com/shop/ols/...ime-free-storage-containers-lifetime-warranty
You're drilling into aluminum which will drill easy and wants to follow the existing holes. So start with the smallest size drill bit and just keep working up to the final size for the insert tap. You wont get crooked if you do it this way.
