I've searched the internet and the forums but nothing seems to quite fit . . .have a rebuilt 700r4 that should have been fine but only had reverse, dropped the pan and linkage was off. Put linkage back on and had all gears. Truck had to sit for 2 days because radiator blew (I'm doomed not to make it to Santa Maria), put re-cored radiator back in and started up for test drive, no reverse engagement whatsoever but have all other gears. Drop pan, linkage is back off, put linkage back on and make sure it isn't going anywhere again . . .start back up but still no reverse. Drop pan but linkage is in place, hasn't gone anywhere . . . read about boost valve assembly being possible problem and checked that out because had changed to mega valve (http://www.200raptor.com/) but nothing is backwards and snap ring is in groove (that I can tell) and everything seems to be in order. The PR valve goes in first , then the PR spring , then the low/reverse boost valve , then the main boost valve , then the snap ring, correct? Also, when adjusting linkage nothing with boost valve was changed and the whole problem started with having only reverse, if boost valve is the problem wouldn't I have not had reverse initially? No burnt fluid but may not have run enough to tell but there are too many metal shavings in the pan every time it has been dropped. What I am hoping for is maybe a diagram, schematics or pretty picture (or a miracle would be nice) someone can show me where to find on the 'puter very soon, as otherwise I am not making it to Santa Maria. Or, someone know of a friendly shop to get information (diagram, whatnot) from in AZ as soon as possible. Any help greatly appreciated. trish
couple of items; you should not be able to install the shift linkage wire link on the manual valve in the valve body easily as you describe. Early design links had a clip on the rooster comb part... later = better design has a curved end that must be instaled on the rooster comb first, then into the manual valve as the v-body is installed. ok.. now as the truck sits it has NO reverse? That can be a few items... IF the reverse boost valve assembly is backwards that will cause problems. Your install procedure is correct on the PR assembly IF the low-reverse boost valve is not backwards. As you assemble the l-r boost valve , you have an outer and inner parts. The inner part will push in till you have a knub sticking out the other end of the sleeve. The protruding nub end must be against the main boost valve You may have a cut lip seal in the reverse input drum , or a cut sealing ring. Just a guess at this point. Another item is check ball install , depends on the year and design of the v-body.
