JUST FINISHED GETTING EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER IN MY 56 NOMAD. I DID A FRAME OFF REPAINT AND FRESHENED EVERYTHING UP ,INSTALLED A HOLLEY STEALTH RAM RUNS GREAT. NO INTERIOR YET SO I GRAB A CRATE AND WANT TO TAKE IT DOWN THE BLOCK FOR A TEST RIDE, NOTHING NO REVERSE NO FORWARD NO CLUNK NOTHING. RECHECKED TRANS OIL LEVEL ,GOOD . RECHECKED LINKAGES GOOD. I DID NOTICE WHEN THE CAR WAS RUNNING I NEEDED TO ADD MORE OIL TO MAKE IT SHIFT PROPERLY . IT HAS AN AFTER MARKET STAINLESS BRAIDED DIP STICK THINKING IT IS NOT CORRECT I ADD ONE MORE QT. OF OIL STILL NOTHING, ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEA BEFORE I START RIPPING THINGS APART AGAIN. THANX BRIAN
What do you mean by "shift properly" ? Into drive from park or 1-2 shift? Filter problem, pump problem, regulator problem
THE TRANY WAS RUNNING GREAT BEFORE I PULLED IT TO REPAINT MY CAR, I DID NOT CHANGE ANYTHING IN IT AT ALL. WHEN I GO FROM PARK TO DRIVE I GET NOTHING , NO CLUNK NOTHING, SAME IF I PUT IT IN DRIVE. I ADDED MORE OIL THINKING THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS LOW IN OIL STILL NOTHING. MADE SURE WHEN I INSTALLED THE CONVERTER THAT IT WENT IN PROPERLY JUST AT A LOSS
So how long of a time period between its last drive before pulling it and now ? What happened to it during that time ? What else did you do? Installing the converter wrong and bolting the engine down usually fucks stuff up and there's no need to start it. Un bolting and reinstalling the converter correctly doesn't fix the damage
Check fluid with engine off. Then start engine and check it again. If the fluid level doesn't go down with engine running you have a broken pump . If the converter wasn't properly installed you can break the ear's off the pump rotor. Since you don't feel it engage at all I suspect that's the problem
the Tv also controls line pressure and can cause a problem if not hooked up . check the line pressure to see if its in spec.or your pump is working .
Probably not something you want to hear. If it will not move in any gear with the correct amount of fluid and the linkage does move the shift lever properly, it may be possible that you have blown the front pump.
PRESSURE, pull a cooler line and see if you have pressure. Check fluid level in park. Don't overfill!
Thank,s for all the info, think I will put a gauge on it and check pressure being that it was running when I pulled it I must have screwed up the pump. CRAP
