As I progress on my 40 tudor build I struggle with my decision to use a TH350 trans. I remember how much I missed an overdrive gear in my 46 with a C4 trans. I have seen the Morfab kit and it looks doable as far as having a place to attach bones in the center x member plate, but how about clearance under the trans? Anyone have experience with this setup?

Did you think about a 200r4? It's the same length as the turbo350(but it's wider at the back). Now the 700r4 it 2" longer.
It was tight to fit the 200 in our 46, and to use a 700 you will compleatly destroy the X member.
I know I had to split the wishbones to get it in there and still cut out some of the X and reinforced the whole thing, but it's worked good for over 10 years.
They say the 200 is weak, but I'm running a 400 small block and you know how torquey they are.

I added the 700r4 for the overdrive ratio and had major interference with the bones. I finally gave up and installed the Heidts Superride which made a great riding and handling 40 sedan delivery. I have a friend who made his own modifications to the x member and moved the bones outboard which I thought would not work, but did, and still is under his car after 10 years. The 200r4 can be made to work but you still have to modify the X to make it fit. I would go with the 700r4 as that is what our local transmission shop recommends over the 200r4. Tough decision if you are a purist.

I built my 40 coupe with a 700R4. Had a good friend who is a great fabricator modify the center section to acomidate it. Although it was built by a well respected ****** guy and a GM mechanic who worked on TPI/700R4's checked my cable adjustment with factory TPI bracketry, it failed after about 20,000 miles. A friend had a 2004R he purchased for a project he sold, so I bought it and installed it in my coupe. Now my coupe has MII front so no wishbones involved. I like the 2004R just fine so far, but 2004R cores are not easy to find now and I have a 700R4 to rebuild, but it sounds like Lynn's experience tells me that it won't work with split bones, so now it is either a 350 or 2004R. I do want to keep the dropped axle and was not impressed with the only 40 with a four bar that I drove, so I may be stuck with the 350 trans. My plan all along has been to build a very simple, around town hot rod, so maybe the 350 will be fine. I will take a good look at the 2004R possibility. Thanks for all the input.
