So im looking for a radiator for my 29 ford on 32 rails. I need a 3" choped 32 radiator for early flathead (no A/C of course ). i just got a quote of $715 from Walker and $642 from U.S. Is it just me but does this seem just a tad bit steep? don't get me wrong,.... American made, new, quality, that all means something. and I may just order one. any other manufacturers? or maybe rebuild a model A? any suggestions? btw... I don't want a mustang radiator. the newest parts on the car are from 46', id like to keep it that way. - Josh
I just paid $815 for a custom made radiator to fit my Hup shell and cool a built 440. Looks great, fits great, good customer service over the phone to make sure I got it just how I wanted it. Freakin expensive but overheating sucks, and so do ugly ass radiators.
Put metal Prices into that equasion, and youd understand, Brass and Copper prices are Fucking insane right now.
I paid 650.00 4 years ago for my Walker. Custom built because the grill and fenders are mounted from it. Like an idiot I thought I could build my hot rod for a couple of grand. Boy I was dreamin!
Walker is priceee, I got a quote from them also, it was around $600, I decided, screw that and got me a 65 mustang radiator, new for a $110 of off e-bay. If I have to replace the radiator every two years and get a new one, it would still be cheaper than with the Walker ten year warranty deal for $600. Just my two cents.
The price of copper/brass is so good here that the crack-heads are trying to steal energized copper wire and are regularly "frying" them selves in the process.
If you go to a car show and U.S. Radiator has a booth, they'll give you a "show special price" on custom radiators, which will save you a lot -- as long as you give them a deposit on the radiator right there at the show. I think they only asked me for a $10 deposit.
Local radiator shop quoted me $500.00 for a custom cross flow, four row cooling for a 500" Caddy with A/C...Walker (and the rest) don't sound that much out of line to me... I always try to buy local because if it gets wrecked, or a hole punched in it...I can get it done in less than a week...and no shipping charges... R-
Check our suhrsc.. PM HIM... we have a local radiator shop that will make custom tanks really reasonably,... he used one in the latest track roadster he built... I am sure he would be more than happy to help you out, or give you some advice
wow, my eyes have been opened..... now that ive spent 6 years building a correct mostly pre-war roadster. i think ill just put a haft plastic, Taiwanese mustang radiator in it. thanks a million, you just saved me big money!!!!!!
I fought an overheat problem for years. Recored the stock then changed to latemodel. I finally spent the money for walker. Looks like the stock radiator and never has overheated since. Some times you save money by spending some. Dennis
i just recieved my second one in a 5 month period today. both 32 with 1 3/4 outlets top and bottom. 715.00 each. they are pricey but a nice unit. if im not mistaken if its for a flathead they automatically add 100.00 to the price.
If you drag your new radiator with a chain for a couple miles, it will have that "Barn Find" look we all crave.
hate to tell you people that I have custom aluminum radiators built here in town most are around 400. some maybe cheaper. made here by local people and I have sold alot of them all over the us.
He will sell you one for that Shane T works for a MAJOR street rod parts company ... and he is a GOOD guy ... giving you a HAMB friendly discount
Here's my Taiwanese reproduction of a '78 Datsun radiator that I converted for flathead use in a 4" chopped '32 shell. Just move the right bottom port to the right top, cannibalize a couple lower ports from a junk '41 radiator, and solder them to the bottom, using a propane torch and all of your luck and soldering skills. Cost: about $114.00 at O'reillys. Next add a nice electric fan and a 3" wide Speedway motors stainless steel overflow tank. Cools the old flathead like a champ. For added correctness I also have a chrome alternator, radial tires, repro front end, repro lights, modern shocks, electric fuel pump, all that stuff. I like things that actually work, for a long time, correct or no. pigpen
Looking at your post history, you have posted this question several times. If you know what you want, then buy it and run it. If not, don't degrade everyone that is TRYING to answer your question. Hell, even one of YOUR posts was asking about aluminum radiators on Ebay. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150673
Man you guys are killin me with these radiator prices. I was just talking to my dad about an hour ago about needing one for my coupe with a flathead. I'm gonna have to do something else because $700 plus is about a fifth of my whole damn budget on this build Bill
