Motion Pictures 75 years of Cam Grinding History - ISKY Racing Cams Shop Tour

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HEMI32, Mar 4, 2022.

  1. Perhaps a bit off topic for the H.A.M.B. … but the Hot Rodding history buff in me found it really interesting:

I am impressed. What a great video. They should still have a Crosley master...

Thanks for that @HEMI32 , not off topic at all. Historical, some tech and a look at the future of cam grinding all in one video.

Iski has a solid flat tappet that I would like to try in my 289, its 248 @ 050 and 590 lift witch is a less duration and more lift than what's in it currently.

Thought my brother and I would drop in at the Isky shop while I’m in the LA area for a while. He called about a week ago and they said they’re not open to the public. I hope to get over there some other time. So many great shops in the area - gotta check some of them out while we can.

35601B84-39F1-40A5-BB5E-9D9A57EC0EB3.jpeg I was at Beaver Springs Drag strip a few years back , talking to a guy about his car. He pointed to a gentleman and asked me if I knew who he was? No….he told me it was ED Iskerdiarn ! I was flabbergasted! Well I had to meet him ,he was standing by the ice cream stand fixing to buy a cone. I offer to pay for it and we got to talking about racing, history, and obviously cams. The Man acted like he had all day to talk to a peon like me! Made me feel real good that he was so friendly! Great guy, great icon!
PS: He was still chomping on that cigar between ice cream bites! LOL:)

Update! I just found the picture! It was August of 2018!

Everyone has had an Isky cam at one time or the other right? Great video. I had an Isky revmaster in a built 283 Eon's ago and my neighbor had a 550 super le gerra in his 327. I also had a 7000 T in my blown 331 hemi gas dragster. Ed Pink engine BTW. Great cams all of them.

When I was a little kid I didn't even know what an Isky Cam was, but I knew it must be important because everybody had an Isky sticker on their car.

I ran my first Isky cam in a '50 Merc flathead...but never really understood beyond the basics how cams were ground. This was really interesting, thanks for posting!

  19. Yep … “YouTuber” Alex Taylor’s 7-second, Drag & Drive ‘55 Chevy 210:

Alex Taylor Racing '55 Chevy 210.jpg
NOTE: Alex's racecar is off-topic for the H.A.M.B. ... but if your curious, just click HERE for a HOT ROD logo.jpg online article.

… is “sponsored” by ISKY Racing Cams logo.jpg ... and Nolan Jamora (ISKY’s Chief Operating Officer) is a Taylor family friend.

Hence Alex’s ability to video her "private tour" of the shop ... and then share it on YouTube logo.png .

Back in 2003 when I was building my Olds 303 I gave Isky a call to see if they could regrind my cam . As it turned out I was talking to ED himself he told me he had the last grind on a shelf and asked me to hold while he checked. After about 15 minutes he said no were to be found. We talked for another half hour about how he loved those engines. I sent him my cam in a Isky box and a couple of weeks later got a call from him that he couldnt do it , Nicest man you could ever talk to will always cherish those calls.

Back in the 70s Hotrod did an article on Ed, his roadster was in corner in the back of his shop. he proceeded clear a pathway out for the car. The article said he disappeared for awhile and then reappeared with a battery and fuel. the old flat head lit up and he took it for a drive. Just by the article I was impressed with him...

For anyone that knows him, has he ever mentioned his friendship with Burt Munro? I one of the books it says Burt developed, I THINK, the 404 cam grind and gave it to Iskenderian. Burt ground his own cams.
