  1. Well it's almost that time again, are you ready? Speedweek happens August 5-11........less than 2 months away.

Who's going? What are you bringing?(race cars and/or hotrods) Post pics if ya want

I'll be there again, helping out with the Montana High Life race teams D/str roadster

Hope to see you all on the salt!

I'm planning on it. I hope to bring the General . It all depends on fire season though. It's off to a rough start here about six weeks early. Fingers crossed

Let us see the Montana High Life D/STR you're associated with.

(We set that record 21 years ago at 190, I'm sure it's more challenging now.)

  4. Yes I'm aware of the record in that class. We are all a bunch of newbs. Gotta start somewhere...
I'm sure you know the car.

    Know the car?

If it's the one I think, we traded records back and forth thru the years.

  7. Ready to roll here. Got a lot going around that time frame. Chick is busy as Media Liason for the SCTA so she is not running the roadtser. Probably spectating for the first time since 03. Be camping in the Orange Subie unless my pal wants to drag his overland rig across Wyoming and Utah

I’ll be there as a spectator, but willing to work for beer (after). Finally talked three buddies from high school (class of the late ‘70s) into going for their first time. My brother will be there with me too.

It’s not the Atkinson, Miller, Barbee car if that’s your thinking Jim…

I've been twice years ago and had a good time. I'd like to go again but the thought of sleeping in my truck or on the ground for 4-5 nights discourages me. Also don't want to go thru all the vehicle cleanup required after driving on the salt. Guess I've turned into a woose. Hope everyone has a good time, I'll watch it on my computer.

Holy Cow! It's been 25 years since we went for the 50th speedweek. Went for several years after that, but at 25 years older I don't know if I'll ever get to go back.

The multiple trips to Bonneville in Clarence did a LOT of damage since I obviously didn't do a good enough job of cleanup. If you go for the first time remember when you get home that when you think you've finished cleaning under your car you've really only just begun to clean. By the time the rust begins to show up it's too late to do any more cleaning.

Y'all have fun. Even after all the work and money fixing Clarence I'm still glad I went and thankful for the memories.

Yep some nasty shit. Not the typical Midwest slush…at Bonneville it’s freaking 100% SALT!
“Bonneville Speed Week”…the best HOT ROD/gearhead event, ever!
Should be the #1 bucket list thing to attend…but my advice, drive on the salt with a vehicle you don’t mind getting cancer…and the place is too spread out for a bicycle to work.
Also, to play it safe, plan an alternate tour of scenic Utah… just in case the rain screws Speed Week up.

  14. The salt can do some damage for sure. My coupe has been driven to/on the salt for many years, yes it has some rust here and there, but not that bad. It's just a beater anyway.
On the flip side, the fun I've had and memories made going there are priceless!

The last couple years I've been using Fluid Film(wax) on the lower parts. Seems to keep the salt from sticking so bad. I think there are some other pre treatment product out there as well

  15. Here is one trick to a good cleaning. LOW PRESSURE!!!! I use one of these sprinklers and spend a couple days moving it around under the rig. Sit it on top of each tire for a couple hours as well.

Sorry Tman totally inadequate. The spinner makes for water flow…Attaching a stick for moving makes what ever you choose easier. All wheels MUST be removed and drums or calipers too. IMG_0192.jpeg IMG_0191.jpeg

I just put my car on the lift and use a garden hose with a hand sprayer, takes an hour or so.

Marty.. Yes, Talked to my son today.. it might be just the two of us and no grandsons…75th Meet and a few months ago he told me to prep the car which I’ve done even installing new tires. He didn’t care about attacking the record (169+ record was at an October meet in 2012 by me, it snowed as we were leaving Wendover) he just wanted to drive the car one more time and give his 2 sons a chance first if they could attend. A totally new cooling system for easier use was figured out by me if I wasn’t able to go so he would.
I have a room and bought an entry already so we are ready for dry hard salt.
We are racing this Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedways 1/2 mile in his Super Stock/Western State Pro Stock which I can’t show the OT car here..

  22. One of the best things is driving through a big thunderstorm on the way home. Then the sprinkler under the vehicle at home.

There are official "salt away" product that have pretreatment and post treatment you spray on. I think driving a hot rod is the only way to really enjoy Speedweek. Just accept you will need to do big cleaning once home, inside and out.

I was at the 40th and the 50th and sure would like to make the 75th.
It's 641 miles from my house to the end of the road. Throw in that I could drop my wife off at my son's place in Wedell Id and Not have to do the the whole trip in one day.
I remember the last time I slept in my tent though, I had to crawl out and use my back bumper to get up with after sleeping on the ground.
I doubt I will make it but it is still a couple of months away.

  24. I like how we are disagreeing on the type of Vintage sprinkler to use! ahahahahaha I had the one I posted so thats what I use. ;) We are both right tho.............LOW PRESSURE so you rinse and not DRIVE the salt deeper

  25. Anybody ever rent an RV and take it on the salt? Wondering how that worked out.....
Seems like it would be tough to get it all cleaned up after? Would be nice in the pits to have a place for drivers/ crew to cool off, eat, etc. Been kicking this idea around...

  26. Clear, self adhesive carpet protector like the realtors use to show new houses. Menards, Lowes etc. carry it

I will be going again! Taking 2 first timers, my grandson from here and my cousin from Missouri. Cousin Kevin is flying to Central Oregon and riding down with us.

    See ya there.
