I went to get a quote on the interior for my 51 Chevy. I went to a local shop that is very reputable and is known for doing excellent work. I am going to need EVERYTHING from carpet to headliner. I only have the seats and headliner bows. I got a quote for all vinyl with a suede headliner: $6500-7500. Is that normal, or crazy? For that much $$$ I may just do it myself.
local place here does it for $1300-$1800. but def isn't the best place to go. I'd rather pay a fraction and have them do it til it's right.
I used to work for an interior shop in Sumter SC, that's about what the owner charged but he only on high dollar gold chainer car's. I'm not real sure if they make interior kits for your car or not but if they do and you want original interior its not rocket science to install it. Or shop around a little, most well known places charge that much because they can. Or drive it to Utah and I'll do it for 5,999, lol J/k. No really you can get a better price just make sure whoever you take it to isn't a hack. Good luck man
Just talking to my dad today about a local rod that just got an interior for $45K!!!!! Ridiculous!!!!
Do it yourself. JC Whitney tuck n roll seat covers- 300, headliner 130, material to do the doo panels 100. Then carpet from menards or lowes. The satisfaction of doing it yourself----Priceless. J/K I am working on my interior now, I just recovered my rear seat and am cutting new door panels this week.
I just had a vinyl interior in my 48 Ford top to bottom for 2,600..including $800.00 for a glide seat
Interiors price's have a lot to do with what you want done and what kind of material you want. There are 1000 kinds of vinyl and they all are different prices so yes it is rediculous but its not hard to believe. 45K for an interior... man I need to start sewing again, that's more than I made last year! haha
You laugh, but that panda leather wears like iron, and the natural bamboo oils repel stains from coffee and spotted owl blood and what-not. I only wish the damn things would breed better to get the price down. A lot of people swear by baby seal tuck 'n' roll, but it's just not the same.
We do interiors and it just depends on what is being done. For what you described, yea, thats higher end but not out of range. $1300-$1800 for that would be a steal. Drop the suede off and see how much he drops it. Vinyls are cheap and no one pays for screw ups. It's like a paint job, guy in my old complex was $5k STARTING for a basic job, but good ole Earl is still $199.99 (insert scruffy voice here). One wins trophys, other covers metal. Ask other shops but DON'T tell them the other guys price or they will "match theirs accordingly".
A fancy so-cal shop that does showcars quoted my friend 7k to do his '39 Chevy interior. You should get a helluva nice job for that kind of money.
My Dad just had his '40 Sedan done for $1500 bucks. He was in the same boat as you, the car needed everything. If you want I can get the contact info for you. You could do a road trip and drop the car off here. The guy works quick.......about ten days from start to finish out of a two car garage.
Do you have the door panels or do they need to be fabbed from scratch? What about the kick panels? Are either of these getting pleats or are they just smooth vinyl? Do you have the old headliner to use as a pattern? Is the head liner getting a contrasting welt in the seams? Has all of the padding on your seats turned to dust? Do the seat frames need repair? Any broken springs? Do any of the seats have armrest built in? Is the carpet going to be cut and sewn or is it a kit? Do you want it bound? Are you getting matching floor mats? Is this a full Tuck & Roll job? Is it sewn pleats, is it electrowelded pleats? Are the seat covers solid inserts or is it a 'horseshoe' pattern? Are the visor getting recovered to match? Are the door arm rests getting recovered? What about the package shelf, is that getting covered? Is the dash getting padded or covered? What brand and weight of vinyl is going to be used? What color vinyl? What brand of suede for the headliner? All these things affect pricing. I don't think the estimate for a FULL interior is out of line for a quality shop, but there's a lot af variables you didn't fill in. What's it cost to have a quality paint job done? What's quality chrome work cost? What's a quality engine rebuild cost? What's a quality tattoo cost? I can get you full sleeve for $250 but I'll damn well guarantee you won't like the work and you'll get an infection. Hell, you may even lose the arm. You do generally get what you pay for, but shop it around. The guy maybe highballing you, but then again, he's got a reputation, a skill not everyone has, and he's got overhead.
I came by last thursday on the way home from the muffler shop but you wernt home from work yet. I'll come by Saturday.......I need to borrow your chop saw and drill press.
EZBoys has a lot of nice Nostalgia looking kits/sets that look great.....install em yourself- But if you insist on having it [all] done-for you- Id try [Fatlucky's] here on the HAMB. Sean's work is beautiful.
Dang for 7 grand it better look like something of the Rich and Famous, have vibrating and heated seats and also come with a Hot *** naked model to accompany you around town. ry this palce for pre moulded carpet for under 200 bucks http://www.stockinteriors.com/items.asp?Makeid=5&ModelId=62&MainCatId=1&Desc=Chevy_Bel-Air_Carpet
