I installed a 8.8 Explorer rear end in my 1939 Ford coupe, using the Explorer parallel leaf springs, and 5" lowering blocks. Rides like a go-cart in a pasture. I bought a pair of speedway radius rods of a guy here on the Hamb. I was thinking of using coil overs, but am considering a stock type tranvers rear spring instead. What spring would work best to get the car lowered 3 or 4 inches ? would it need a track bar?
You could run a 40 spring, remove a few leaves and reverse the eyes. Speedway sells brackets to run spring behind the axle like stock
My '41 pickup has a triangulated ladder bar setup and transverse spring. Ride is ok, but really not a priority on a pickup. The truck handled ok without a panhard bar, but had a tire rub; the panhard fixed it. The setup isn't high tech, but will certainly work.
Just go with the tci or ch***is engineering parallel leaf kit ... I'm sure the explorer leafs are made for a much heavier car if you took leaves out and searched the spring it would soften the spring weight but would take a few tries to tune it shocks will be a factor in the ride quality you seek also OR... Get a pair of 35-36 bones and make them into ladder bars as they will already have your perches nessesary to put that stockleafspring back in your car, provided you didn't cut the crossmember
