Joel I don't know. He told me they're from a 1960 ford truck. He has an old beat up trailer with the complete front axle and springs under it. I new they were there cause when it's laying around the property I can see how the axle looks like my F1. I peeked under there once and saw they were Bendix style cause of the nut on top. There's no drums and I asked if I could have them since they don't do anything. I didn't know about there being 11" offerings, oh darn.

  2. It looks to me like a F100. The drums can be bought at NAPA for those, parts availability for the F100's is good, and not overly priced. I believe the drums are the same from '53-'66, Good score.

I was super-pumped about the brake backing plates but now am equally bummed about their 11" status and how it will look small inside a exposed 16" wheel backside. I'm trying to take my mind off this by exploring the Ford 9" rear axle route. I just don't like the 8.8 in there anymore than the TP do. Now that the rush for Running Shine to be finished is relaxed its allowed me the patience to rethink some choices. I still will use Banjo hub ends for that right look. I think I'll start buy trying to sell all the 8.8 parts I have and see if it can fund a Bronco axle purchase. Cross your fingers

Don't sell the 11" brakes out too much. Wire wheels with nothing behind them look cool and kinda erie!

Why not ditch the 8.8 in favour of a Dana 44? They are easier to find in the right width and command less of a price than a bronco 9". And they are way easier to find with 31 spline axles and limited slips etc. Just a thought.

I've always thought they're kinda ugly. Cobbley/heavy/bulky plus sorta modern. They look more at home to me under a off road truck or jeep. Most definitely no traditional vibe there and that's my current problem, not a strength issue, just coolness.
Oops you said 44, reduce all previous rant a little.

The Dana 60 yes. The 44 is more traditional than a 9". The one in my truck is from 1955 and the design was started in 1933 with the Dana 30.

    But each to their own.

  7. That backing plate looks slick! Surprised people not telling you good job!
Gotta be careful though and add a fine mesh screen somehow so nothing gets in except for nice and cold air.
And just wondering, what is keeping you from choosing a later banjo? (Besides the dreaded assembly/disassembly)

Plain and simple is my intended engine should make just shy of 550hp at the crank, even the motor I am possibly putting in it first should crack 400. I know my drag race past won't let me be, but I don't want to hurt my truck or others with a accident.

Thank you @dumprat Matt for the grill bars! I actually may work on it soon and post some updates of other little progress that has happened by near accident.

My friend sent me this pic awhile ago. This is the pitman arm that was real long that I cut down for Hubba Hubba before Bruce gave me a 40 that I bent up instead. I love having two builds going on where I balance out the parts and they both end up better for it.
I'm using the stock front axle, spindles, and wishbone that came with the 34s chassis now on the pickup instead of the F1 axle and the 37 or somethin newer bones for example.
I'll get the axle dropped by a HAMB axle master and split the wishbone and fix a mistake I mentioned in a previous post.
I'll use the bones and spindles that were for the truck on the east coast Model A I am gonna build after the PU. This next builds gonna use the front frame section that came under Hubba Hubba. If I had a model A body now I could say I have three builds going on since I'm already collecting parts for three?
Man I hope I don't go an keel over anytime soon.

I'm thinking of running a 60s era crossram intake instead of a standard dual quad now. So I'm officially on the prowl.

From what I have read all of the Shelby/cobra intakes were cast and designed by edelbrock anyway.

And yes that will look pretty wicked.

What are you going to run for valance covers?

I never liked the looks of M/T covers. Five fin ansen are nice or some cal custom hawks.

I was going to run my old Cal Customs on my big motor and some stamped steel blue ovals on the small motor.
The cal customs unfortunately don't look like they are tall enough for decent rockers let alone a stud girdle. If I use a spacer it might ruin the 60s Ford backed race team effort look I'm after. I think the steel, which seem fairly tall, might look plenty appropriate with the Holman Moody decals I got, along with the correct era color of course.
I know I've said it here many a time but here goes again. The truck needs to look like a Appalachian region hill truck that was hot rodded in the fifties to move around some clear flammable liquid. Then in the mid sixties the tired flathead was tossed in favor of a overhead valve motor that fell out the back door of some premier race shop. It has to look the part of a smart high power tidy package.
Look out HAMB drags!? Well, someday.

Ya need some tall stamped steel Mercury FE block covers and adaptors to clear. That would be perfect. Kinda hill billy nascar

  20. Ha. The hoarder in me has an S code 390 sitting, with a loose set of medium riser 427 heads, Lemans 427 rods (2 sets)/Ned Jarrett purchases and a 406 crank and block in the same pile. I have a Buddy Bar tunnel port intake with the tennis ball two and a half inch ports too. Ridiculous what that bundle of pieces would do to your 84 year old frame. Sure would be a hoot to at least see it thru once huh ? I always wanted to build a high winding 406 or 427 FE. Just sh#t collecting dust at the moment. Tons of DOVE era 429SCJ-460 crap sitting around too. I'm a loser I guess.

That stuff sure looks huge compared to a small block. I had a set of DOVE heads and an interceptor cast intake, but it was stolen.

There is something weird about the visor. It is the wrong shape or something. I do like the amount of chop though. Looks just about right.

Yeah this was one of my main influence PUs when I started mine. I veered away too much I think now when wanting to hide my frame. I might need to just sell out and plagiarize more if I want to like mine in the end. Aaron's is a 3" chop(which was done in the day so he kept it) and a 3" channel. I was going to drop mine down 5" and possibly take out around an inch upstairs. Maybe now I should look at 4" and 2" in the same order?

Matt I've studied this truck hard. I think it's just that pic. I know of no changes to the visor and it looks normal in other angles. The doors are flush fit though.

Hmm it just looks rounded rather than flat and the beads stop short.

Maybe your right, cause here's my early 32 cab visor. I'm confident mine is unaltered.[emoji41]

Hmm another difference between the years. The 33-34 has a bead that goes right to the bottom and the visor itself is more flat, less of a rounded shape.
