anybody ever try it or know anyone who tried it?My Bro. is gonna try it,struts and all, any input on this deal? Theres been a lot of folks arond here say'n its not gonna work!
With enough of 3M (men, money, machines) you can make anything work. I personally dont like struts, just something about a suspension component that uses the "stick and bind" principle doesnt appeal to me. My favorite front clip conversion is to used a 1978 and up big GM like the ones used on the Caddilac and Olds 98. You get good geometry, 5 on 5 bolt pattern hubs with 1/2 inch studs and 12 inch rotors and they are common and very affordable. The performance steering boxes off of Transcamaros bolt on. And the frame is stout without being overly heavy. Then again that is just my opinion, I could be wrong.
i have a buddy that put a t-bird (same thing ) under a 62 ford truck only they removed the strut and made a upper control arm and spring poket it fit fairly well i will see if i can find pics he says it drives great i just used the aspen front stub on my 61 truck
bad idea they don't have great geometry to begin with - a wild camber curve and the "modified" macpherson strut is just a wacky concept all around gotta use a REALLY heavy spring due to it's location inboard of the strut and I've had probably a dozen '78+ Fox platform cars my .02 - find something better
Way, way too much work, even if you got the parts free. Using the front frame clip from ANY front engine, rear-wheel drive vehicle that uses a full frame, or even a '81 or older camaro-firebird-nova with a front subframe, would be a million times more feasible, and still cheap.
