Hi guys, I'm new here but I have a 52 Chev COE and have found a 84 ch***is to put under it - I'm a noivce when it comes to working out all the models. THe Vin no. (1GTGC24WXEJ 511409) indicates it is a 1984 C2500 single cab. How can I tell what engine it used to have, and is the 2500 ch***is stronger/better than the C1500?
Hi, Welcome. All the 3/4 ton 2500 stuff will be heavier duty than the 1/2 ton parts. I did some reasearch and found out that the frame itself is the same thickness of metal. Doesn't matter what it used to have, it's a Chevy, so there will be provisions to put any GM engine in it using factory parts. If it's going to be in the stock location, that is. General Motors should be able to tell you what is was originally by searching the serial # for you.
Hi there, I'm building the same here in Wanganui onto '83 ch***is. pics of my build here http://rides.webshots.com/album/573567191xiTfam Where in NZ are you? Cheers Willy
Hi, sounds like a great start. Ive also got an 84 chevy ch***is (only its a p-20) ch***is srw probably like a 3/4 or heavy 3/4 ton ch***is. it has a good running 6.2l diesel in it. Ive got a lot of measuring and planning still to see if its even remotely possible to fit? oh mine is a 52 also only a ford. seems like i read somewhere that the chevy 350 is about the same size (physically) as the 6.2 litre detroit diesel?? gonna have to do some measuring and comparing. as id sure like to use the diesel and even add a turbo if it can be made to fit? Willy, great pictures of your progess.
