8BA(Bonnie) and 8RT(Clyde).Which one first?

  1. I think I already know which way I'm going but if possible I'd like to hear from people that know. I think they both can be made to run. Right now I want to go with the cheaper one. Clyde has been mag fluxed but needs the valve seats dealt with. Bonnie would need bored and has not been mag fluxed. Apparently to sleeve one or two cylinders would cost more than boring out all eight and the machine shop dude said he'd rather not just sleeve two of them.

  2. I guess I'll just say that I'm figuring on the 8RT.

To build the 8BA, first I have to get it mag fluxed. It looks to be crack free but I want the piece of mind. That's $206. Getting it bored on all 8 is another $250. Then $250-$300 for oversized pistons and rings. So $756 I guess but probably more.

The 8RT has already been mag fluxed and given a clean bill of health. I think valve seat grinding was $250 out the door. Cam bearings and install, not sure but I'll figure another $200. Then adjustable lifters. Isky? Comp Cam? I don't know which ones I'd need but surely $250. So $700 on the 8RT. Am I in the ballpark?

Looking at it now, I guess it's about six of one, half dozen of the other. Maybe the 8RT would be less time in the shop though. I'm going to go with the 8RT unless someone can tell me what I'm missing here.
