Interesting video with a father and son machine shop repair!! Hopefully we can have some constructive criticism and not a fulltime smackdown!! Pete
Thanks for posting such a detailed and complete video. Jim's Automotive Machine Shop, as shown by the knowledge and technical skill, is impressive. I wish the estimated cost to do that repair work was included to give folks an idea of the amount of time and effort required for a full days work on making such a repair. It was an excellent presentation. Easy to see how finding a good flathead block is so important. I think this is their website. Introduction / Meet the Team - Jim's Automotive Machine Shop, Inc. Yep! I watch their videos every Sunday morning along with the Mustie 1 videos.... Those are both cool to watch...
By watching the u tube videos I learned how to check valve seats using vacuum; gave me the balls to go ahead and get the tooling. Practiced on a block I cut apart to get close access to the seats, Crosley which is dead end cylinders. Was a bitch setting up cutter with 5 inserts, next time [If I live long enough] I will try one insert piloting the cutter like how the Serdi works since I have a B'port mill. Having Tool making experience [38 years] I can attest that making chips takes time, as well as the planning, its not simple execution. Some times it takes holding your breath too.
