8BA distributor

just got n started 51 after 3.5 yrs sitting///did dist cap, rotor,condenser, plug wires,clean gas,rebuilt starter .drove it 125 miles ,rotor broke in half. replaced it ,now noise from dist. any ideas//suggestions???

 

PM GMC BUBBA he is the Dizzy master... He did mine....

 

Remove the cap and see if the rotor is hitting the cap. The contact can be filed for clearance. Gary

 

Don't spend a lot of time/momey on that OEM 8BA distributor.
The 'Loadamatic" all vacuum advance system just plain sucked!!!
GMC Bubba can fix you up with a much better setup.

 

There's supposed to be a little clip at top of the shaft to secure the rotor. If that has gone away, rotor might well be loose enough to hit the cap...look at 12213 in the drawing here: http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/FH_images/FH_engine-pics/Flathead_Distributor_1950to53.jpg

That distributor's advance system is generally a serious drain on driveability and performance...get rid of it ASAP.
