I know I'm jumping the gun seeing I don't have a cowl or radiator yet but I've been searching on here for some advice on fan setups for av8's. I haven't had much luck yet but I'm still searching. The F-1 crossmember and motor mounts are held in with C-clamps currently. I have the tardel book, but it's like a ******* right now, I'm just looking at the pictures and not doing much reading. I have to make myself start squinting and get to reading. Goal is a 30 RPU no hood. I have most all my mechanicals just after body parts. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks, Pat

Is there a specific question in here somewhere? Yes, you have the fan set up.

Looks like I'm going to run into clearance issues with the radiator and I'm just wondering what others have done

The Bishop/Tardel book is a great guideline, but not a blueprint. Remember they were working with a 59A which is about an inch and a quarter shorter than an 8BA. I would suggest you mount your body, center the rear wheel well over the C/L of the rear axle. Now set your engine so that you have adequate clearance from cowl to engine and see if you have adequate fan/radiator clearance. If not you will have to shorten the fan to engine dimension by some means, or lengthen the wheelbase to move the cowl back. Just reread your post and since it is a '30 the firewall can be inverted, and since it is an RPU (***uming it is fenderless) you have some leeway on rear axle placement. Hope this helps.

  5. I know that you can bolt in all 59A style water pumps, timing case and dizzy and gain an inch and a half or so from memory.. that may help you.

Most guys that run a fan in a Model A with a flatty.. tend to modify it to some degree.

This gives you an idea of how much room i have in my Model A, using an original radiator / grill and a '40 24 stud flathead. There isn't any fan stuff in there yet but theres plenty of room for it.
