OK fair enough, I will just move forward with the bypass setup and be done with it. I saw reference to the need to add a restrictor in line between the block and the filter with the bypass set up. Where might one obtain such a thing?
I just soldered a fitting closed and had my machinist buddy drill a 1/16” hole in it. Fits at the inward side of the canister.
If you can find a complete stock setup (with the lines), the restrictor should already be there. It's usually in the input fitting at the top of the filter.
Make an aluminum plug tapered. And pound it in the untapped crosshole. A dab of thread locker if it makes you feel better I did that for my fuel pump rod elimation works fine. Aluminum is soft, and sticks tight in dissimilar metal
I don't think I could get a tapered plug in there, the hole it would have to go through would not accommodate anything larger than 27/64" which is the diameter of the hole that needs plugging. Good thought though!
I got it! Shove some paper towels down the top hole past the cross hole, and What if you flip the engine over on the engine stand and then put a magnet in the hole to catch the shavings if you tap it?
It's an idea, I have the engine mounted in the chassis already but it's not an irreversible situation. I am going to have to go stare at it for awhile and make a firm decision about what to do.
