1952 MERCURY Flywheel FLATHEAD V8 | eBay so is that a 9.5 or 10 inch flywheel IF i were to buy it and fit a modern pressure plate to it, does the pushy bit from the thrust or throw out bearing lay in the same plane/space 241mm is 9.48 inches the 6 on 60 degree drillings i think means all pressure plates at that size fit and it has nothing to do with certain manufacturers, i.e. clutch people make clutches and not manufacturers of cars
so IF the engine has a equal drilled flywheel for an 11 inch clutch it means the engine is 1953 and it came from a bigger truck than a f100 1953 and came from a 1.5 tonner that may explain why i though it was a merc engine as it had merc pumps on it but thin belts too...... oh and it having high comp 8ba heads and ford stroke crank not 4'' so do i just redrill the flywheel from 11 to 9.5 hmm got a cast half bell that seems a tad shallower where the hogs head fits, maybe that will clear ahh someone switched the rear bowl sump from it and fit the 3 rib car version, as it was removed and loosly fitted , or maybe the big trucks used tham as they clear
Mercury flywheel pictured--uses a 10" Borg & Beck pressure plate. If your throw out bearing is a large 32-48 style ,then use a 49-50 Mercury PP If a smaller late 51-53 bearing is used, then a 52-53 PP is required.
