I have a bad block in my 1952 F-1. It has a newly rebuilt 8BA (Ford) I have found a 8CM. (Merc) Can I put all the externals ( manifold, starter, fuel pump, fan, Water pumps, distributor on the 8CM block. Can i put the 8BaHeads on the 8CM to give it more compression or will that cause problems?
The blocks are the same. Differences are internal...crankshaft, pistons, and oil pickup in the pan. I think the starter is dedicated to the style of clutch housing though I may be wrong. However, if you are pulling the engine and trans then you should be able to swap the bell housing, starter plate, and starter.
By bad block, how? Sometimes what seems fatal, may not be. All of that will swap to the 8RT configuration. Of course you'll have to use the pulleys and pumps from your truck engine. The starter is the same, the difference is in the starter plate and bellhousing. Make sure you use the truck pan and oil pump pickup. Since you have all the parts, it's a simple swap.
Assuming the 8CM is a good motor - just replace the truck parts over to it - water pumps - bellhousing with starter plate along with the starter - and any thing on the outside like the distributor - carb and fuel pump. The 8CM block should be a 255 cu in motor vrs the 239 cu in motor a 8BA is. Keep the Merc 8CM heads.
