Hey guys, anyone here use a V style blower ? Ive got a 8V71 I wanna use and have a few questions, Ive looked on the net but cant find any info on these .. Thanks .....
Call any of the blower kit vendors and ask them. I would suspect that the amount of machining needed and the lack of manifolds and drive parts would make it too expensive compared to a 6-71.
Not as common and harder to find performance parts for - I've seen a few done over the years though. Steve
Most people take a single 4 barrel intake and added a 3/4 aluminum plate for the blower to mount to. The V series uses bolts drilled at an angle with retainers at the top on the bolt to hold them in place. The plate and retainers are easy to fab with just basic machine skills. If not, Dyer's sells a plate kit or will convert your intake.
thanks for the help guys, I sent a message to dean of deanblowers, got nothing back from him. Ill check the others, thanks again ...
I had a 6V71 on my old 32 that was prepped by Dyers. As was mentioned, they used to make intake's etc for then. A few years back i had another core i was thinking of setting up for street use, but that quickly changed after talking with then. The intake alone was in the 800 area for a small block chevy because it had to be made, not a stocked item any longer. So id call them and see what they say. Overall, it was quite a bit cheaper and much easier to find an inline core and set that up then the V series. Tony
hey tony, thanks for the input, im building the intake from a tunnel ram, got a friend whos a dandy aluminum welder, im looking for some information, like i dont see any clocking marks on the drive gears or rotor shafts, any idea ? thanks again...
definately the people to talk to on using a v style blower , also they can rework yours ( proper clearances and nose gear /pulleys
No problem Mark. The 6V i had was already set up years before i got it so unfortunately i dont have any info on clocking the gears.. Honestly, id still suggest Dyers for the info. They seemed to be involved in them quite a bit years ago. And having a buddy build the intake is a huge savings. All Dyer's did was take a Weiand dual quad intake, machine out the quad flange area and weld on a new flange for the blower. So not much different than what you're doing. Best of luck! Tony
Thanks Tony, Ill call Dyers and see about bearings, My bad, lol, I put on my gl***es, god I hate getting old, and found the wide spline on the rotor shafts, so I marked the gears, and it all came right apart.. Now for some bearings, Thanks again ...........
